6 Things We’d Like To See In A Sequel To Solo: A Star Wars Story

With its poor box office performance and lukewarm reception, it’s safe to say that Solo: A Star Wars Story has become the slightest entry of the Star Wars saga. It’s a shame really, since there’s plenty of enjoyment still to be found in the film.

Lots More Lando

Solo’s focus was, appropriately, upon its titular smuggler. Yet the film also allowed us to meet the Millennium Falcon’s previous owner in his youth. That’s right – Lando Calrissian graces the screen, and we learn that before his time as a Rebel general or Cloud City’s administrator, he was the same old suave, swashbuckling rogue.

Portrayed by Donald Glover (in an inspired bit of casting), Lando has a large impact on the film, magnetically drawing our attention to him whenever he appears on screen. It’s all the more impressive, considering that he’s only in the movie for a relatively short period of time. As such, a follow-up to Solo would allow us to get to know him better and work out what makes him tick.

You might argue that Han and Lando’s story is done now. Indeed, despite their fraught relationship, the end of Solo tallies up perfectly with Lando and Han’s reunion years later. However, there’s plenty of latitude for the two to team up again before The Empire Strikes Back. Certainly, Han and Lando’s interactions in that scene suggest that they got to know each other very well, over a longer period of time than those several days in Solo.

In that case, how did they become the firm friends that we know they are? What trick or con did Han pull on Lando last time they met? Could we see Lando try to steal the Falcon back in a sequel? It would be fantastic for any future Han Solo film to answer any of these questions. However, whoever it is that makes these narrative choices must ensure that Han/Lando doesn’t overshadow the core, most crucial partnership of the picture
