7 Actors Who Should Play Green Lantern

The words 'Green Lantern' can strike fear into the hearts of those who sat through the travesty that starred Ryan Reynolds just a few short years ago. However, for those of us who have read the comics or even watched the Justice League cartoons as a kid, Green Lantern is one of DC's most exciting and iconic characters. Fortunately, when DC finally decided to compete with Marvel's cinematic universe late last year, their upcoming slate of movies included a brand new Green Lantern film.

Before Ryan Reynolds won the role of Hal Jordan in the first Green Lantern movie, rumors circulated that Chris Pine was up for the part. Unfortunately, this casting idea never came to fruition, but perhaps this was for the best, as the film ultimately failed so spectacularly. Now that a few years have passed, it’s time to reconsider Chris Pine in the role.

Since Pine was first rumored to play Green Lantern, the star has become even more popular, taking on leading roles in both the Star Trek and Jack Ryan franchises. Not only does Pine look the part, but he has the charisma to still make the cocky young pilot likeable without being too obnoxious. While it was hard for many to take Reynolds seriously in the role, Pine has both the comedic timing and action chops required to make this part work.

Whether DC give Hal Jordan another chance or try out a new Green Lantern such as Rayner or Stewart, the company are under a huge amount of pressure to make this movie work, so casting the correct actor will be key. 2020 is still a long way away, but hopefully we’ll get our first glimpse of the new Green Lantern sooner in a cameo role for one of DC’s other upcoming superhero movies.
