7 Spectacular Superhero Romances

For many, there is nothing like relaxing in the arms of the one you love after a hard day at work. Spending time with that special someone, who helps you forget all the stresses and strains of the daily grind, can be invaluable for re-charging the batteries. In this respect, superheroes are just like the rest of us. They may not all bleed when you prick them, but they do all seem to need a little tender loving care from time to time.

Superman and Lois Lane

It is, perhaps, the most iconic of superhero romances – the Big Blue Boy Scout and the intrepid reporter from the Daily Planet. They know it shouldn’t work, but they just can’t help themselves.

In their first cinematic incarnation – in the Christopher Reeve-Margot Kidder Superman movies – his alter-ego, Clark Kent, falls for Lois Lane as they work together in the news room, and she falls for Superman. Then, slowly, she begins to have feelings – and suspicions – for Clark Kent, prompting him to reveal his secret to her and relinquish his super powers in order to truly share his life with her.

This causes problems for Superman, because he continues to have an instinctive need to help people, but has no super powers to back it up – leading to an epic beat-down. Distressed by his internal conflict, Lois confides her misgivings in Clark/Superman, so he erases her memory of his superhero identity with a super-kiss. While this means they are then ‘just friends’ once more, Lois remains a valued confidante of Superman throughout his adventures.

But when this romance was rebooted by Man Of Steel, the much more plausible scenario of a clued-in Lois Lane was employed. She is a smart, relentless and talented reporter, and it is this nature that leads her to uncover the truth about Superman and his alter-ego, Clark Kent, right from the start.

This means that, when Kent arrives at the Daily Planet for a job at the end of the movie, they already share a secret between them, which is super-cool and romantic. Where will this relationship go next? We’ll find out on March 25th, 2016 in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
