7 Star Wars Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff

Disney's got some big plans involving Star Wars, their latest hot stock. With Rogue One proving to be a major success (anybody else still get goosebumps when they think about those last five minutes?) and a Han Solo spinoff already in production, we can be sure that these two “anthology” stories will not be the last of their kind.

Another awesome character who “split” too early from the franchise, Darth Maul was initially going to play a much larger role in The Phantom Menace. However, like a lot of things in that movie, George Lucas messed up, as Darth Maul quickly became one of the most popular characters of the prequels. Seriously, how can you not expect a horned, red-faced, dual-bladed killer to be admired? The Sith Lord did come back in the “Clone Wars” animated series – this time, with robotic legs – but he still has a minimal presence on screen.

Maul was the Emperor’s last student before Vader, and a prequel film to The Phantom Menace would provide an interesting look at the Sith’s training system. It’s obvious Maul is a hateful character, and a spinoff could provide ample reasoning behind that abhorrence, as well as a reason for the rekindling of the extinct Sith.

This is a character that’s just screaming to be revisited. Maul’s past and future are clouded, and with his roots drenched by darkness and hatred, giving us the chance to explore his backstory would be a great move on Disney’s part.
