4) The Scarlet Witch
For audiences unfamiliar with the comics, the Scarlet Witch may seem basically like any other superhero, albeit slightly stranger than most, but for those who follow the source material religiously, Wanda Maximoff is a key player, one whose introduction is set to change the MCU forever.
Now that Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed that her heroic alter ego will appear next in Captain America: Civil War, it appears that the Scarlet Witch’s involvement could win the war, depending on which side she chooses. So far, we’re yet to still see the extent of her powers, but Wanda’s debut in Age of Ultron certainly proved that she is strong enough to take on any of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a fair fight and her powers of manipulation could be a deciding factor in the coming Civil War.
Currently, it seems likely that Wanda would choose Captain America’s side over Iron Man due to both what Stark’s weapons did to her family and her current status as one of Cap’s new Avengers, but this could still change as her character develops further.
Comic book fans may also be aware of the significant role that the Scarlet Witch played during the House of M event a few years back, where Wanda became insane and stripped most mutants of their powers, while also killing fellow Avengers Hawkeye and Vision in the process. One would have thought the death of her brother Quicksilver could have provoked such a change in Age of Ultron, but Wanda seems relatively calm and collected by the end of the film. This could all still change though and by the time Avengers: Infinity War rolls round, there’s a possibility that the Scarlet Witch could snap, or even be manipulated by Thanos.
Once a villain, always a villain?
