8 Actors Who Could Play Norman Osborn In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Filming on Sony/Marvel collaboration Spider-Man: Homecoming is now under way, with the movie due to swing into cinemas next July. There are not too many things that have been 100% confirmed about the film as yet, but it is expected to pit Tom Holland’s Spidey against that winged terror The Vulture. This has been met with positivity from fans, as Vulture is a villain we have yet to see on the big screen. Unlike Norman Osborn, for instance, who has featured in four out of five of the previous Spider-films.

Though the rumour has cooled down now, back in 2015 Dallas Buyer’s Club actor Matthew McConaughey was allegedly being targeted by Marvel for Norman Osborn. It probably wasn’t actually true, but it does offer up a very strong candidate for the role.

Discounting Cooper’s version for reasons just stated, the current image of Norman Osborn to moviegoers is Willem Dafoe’s grinning mad scientist. Though he was brilliant, there is a lot of room for the character to be reinvented as a powerful and serious threat. McConaughey could easily deliver on that.

The actor previously confirmed that he had been approached for unknown roles by both Marvel and DC, but he had not taken them up on the offer. Maybe with a juicy part like Osborn he would be tempted enough to finally sign up for a superhero film?
