Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got off to a rocky start initially and didn’t really find its feet until it discovered a more dramatic tone half way through its first season. One thing it did get right from the off, though, was Melinda May.

One of the most skillful agents in all of the MCU, Melina (AKA The Cavalry) was immediately a winner and an example of what AoS was built to do. Just because these characters aren’t the costumed superpowered people of the movies, doesn’t mean they can’t be kickass heroes in their own right. As Phil Coulson’s right-hand woman, the stoic Melinda has been a mainstay of the show since the start and has never lost what made her such an immediate fan favourite.
