It's a taxing time to be a fan of the DCEU. It feels like every other hour there's a new report about the franchise being in deep peril or a brand-new film starting production imminently. From the constant "is Ben Affleck staying or going" debate to the news that Flashpoint will reboot everything, our hearts are really fragile right now. While there's an element of truth to more than a fair share of these rumors, there are many that are completely ridiculous. To be rather frank, it's the fault of these so-called "ace scoopers" who often release bogus tips to get the Internet into a frenzy about something they heard from a guy who heard it from his cousin's girlfriend's father's co-worker at the liquor store. Also, Reddit is quickly becoming a source of great entertainment, since most of the users are purely trolling the media now. Say what you want, but there's more fun and excitement in the DC fandom than anywhere else at the moment. The passion is alive, and that's the reason everyone is talking about these films and spreading the gossip (or gospel, depending on how you see it). So, we've decided to look back at some of the most insane rumors to date and list them for you to reflect on and have a good ol' chuckle. The Joker Is Really Jason Todd Now, this one started as a fan theory before the release of Suicide Squad. Eagle-eyed fans spotted the "J" tattoo under the Joker's face, as well as the knife-through-a-robin ink on his arm, and pieced together a persuasive argument that this version of Mr. J is really Jason Todd, AKA the second Boy Wonder. It sounded extremely convincing, to be honest, and a helluva twist in the DCEU. But it also would've deepened the connection between the Clown Prince of Crime and Batman as a symbol of the Dark Knight's greatest failure in creating a new version of his nemesis. More than anything, this theory would've helped explain why the Joker possesses a drastic new look that we're all unfamiliar with. Unfortunately, it's untrue, and Mr. J's gangsta style is purely due to shocking design and bad taste on the part of the filmmakers. 6 Batman Films In 2019 If we've ever wanted a rumor to be so badly true, it's this one. Initially, a report said that four Bat-related films would be released in 2019, then it suddenly escalated to six. The news spread like wildfire on social media, but it was quickly shot down by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg in fine fashion on Twitter. Considering the original source of the rumor was Reddit, it should've been taken with a pinch of salt immediately and not gotten as much traction as it did. Even so, we still grasped to the odd chance that it could be true since it sounded downright awesome. Given the fact that we know Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, The Batman, and Batgirl are all coming, you can imagine why it did seem plausible to think they could all be released in 2019 - especially since the year marks the 80th anniversary of the Caped Crusader. But alas, it doesn't look like it will be the Year of the Bat after all. And what a damn shame that is. Wonder Woman Is A Mess Oh, remember this one? This all began when a disgruntled ex-Warner Bros. employee published a letter online, airing grievances about the company and its film slate. Here's a snippet of what it said: "What are you even doing? I wish to God you were forced to live out of a car until you made a #1 movie of the year. Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn't be such a mess. Don't try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it's another mess. It is almost impressive how you keep rewarding the same producers and executives for making the same mistakes, over and over." Well, the salt shaker can be put away now, because this individual only needs his/her words to flavor their food. If a mess includes being the number one film of the summer and a critical darling, we want to be more like Wonder Woman as well. Once again, this rumor proves the old adage: don't believe everything that you read on the Internet. This is especially important to remember given that similar reports are starting to pop up about Justice League, and many people are taking them as fact. Harley And Joker's Pet Hyenas To Appear In Suicide Squad This was a bit of a fun one, but proof that Umberto Gonzalez doesn't always get his scoops right. Posted on his Instagram page, Umberto claimed that Harley Quinn would wear a lot of different outfits and we'd see her and the Joker's pet hyenas in Suicide Squad. Okay, it's half true, so we'll give him 5/10 for this hot tip. The change of outfits was indeed correct, and we did catch a glimpse of her beloved jester suit made famous in Batman: The Animated Series, but no sign of the hyenas. Maybe they ended up on the editing room floor along with the rest of Jared Leto's pride, or the animals tried to attack him after he sent them a vegan platter to help tap into his despicable character. Who knows? There's always the chance that the pet hyenas will pop up further down the line, too, so let's not get too despondent about this. If Slipknot can get a cameo in a DC film, surely so can those little rascals, right? Scott Eastwood Will Be Nightwing/Arsenal/Steve Trevor/Deathstroke When Scott Eastwood was cast in an unnamed role in Suicide Squad, the rumor mill went nuts. Who could he be playing? From Dick Grayson, to Arsenal, to Steve Trevor, to Deathstroke, every name under the sun was thrown around. Given that Eastwood is a hot name in Hollywood and the filmmakers were keeping their cards close to the chest about his mysterious role, it had to be a big one, right? Well, he ended up portraying GQ Edwards, a character that no one's heard of and turned out to be nothing more than Rick Flag's bitch. Thanks for that, David Ayer. After all the drama around Eastwood's secret role, we were left equally disappointed and bewildered. It saddens us to say that this was a missed opportunity by the DCEU. Imagine if Eastwood had been revealed to be an undercover Dick Grayson, spying on Task Force X for Batman? It would've been a perfect plot twist, don't you think? Dick Grayson Is Dead In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Ah, another Dick Grayson rumor. This one, though, applies to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. After the photos and trailers revealed that a Robin would be dead in the film, many people speculated whether Zack Snyder had done the unthinkable and killed off Dick instead of Jason Todd. Things didn't get any better when a photo leaked onto the net showing a gravestone bearing the name of Richard John Grayson. Fortunately, as soon as the photo appeared, it was dispelled as fake, and we can rest easy knowing that Dick is still alive in the DCEU. However, this rumor did serve as a forewarning of sorts, because Snyder did end up killing off another fan-favorite in the form of Jimmy Olsen. Much like George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones, it seems that no one is safe in Snyder's films. Tom Cruise As Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Here's more recent gossip. We all know by now that Green Lantern Corps is on the way in the not-too-distant future. What we don't know is who's set to play the role of Hal Jordan. If The Wrap is to be believed though, Tom Cruise is one of the names in the running for it. Yes, that Tom Cruise. Frankly, we find this incredibly hard to believe. One, Cruise looks nothing like Jordan. Two, if the film were to reach theatres in 2020, as predicted, Cruise would be 58 at the time of its release. While he still looks incredibly young for his age, it's unlikely that Warner Bros. will invest in a then-58-year-old man to play a character that could be around for a few more films spanning possibly a decade. It's no secret that Cruise demands a lot of control on set, too, and the DCEU really doesn't need any other opinionated cooks in their kitchen. Make no mistake, Cruise is a talented actor, and we love watching him on the big screen, but we just don't see him as Hal. Or anyone else in the franchise for that matter. Jim Gordon Is Dead Man, when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was announced, everyone was convinced that half of DC's characters had been killed off already. Apart from the rumors of Dick Grayson being dead, a lot of folks were convinced that Jim Gordon was six feet under, too. Heck, we'll admit that we were even part of that group as well. In fact, it wasn't until the news that J.K Simmons had been cast as Gordon in Justice League that we finally breathed a sigh of relief. Can you imagine a Batman film without the police commissioner in it? It's dreadful to even think about it. Looking back now, it was a crazy rumor to believe since there was no fact or basis to it - only our presumption. Fortunately, DC and Warner did us all a solid and made sure that everyone's favorite cop will continue to feature in DC films for years to come. Hooray! Bradley Cooper As Lex Luthor In Man Of Steel Back before Man of Steel entered production, most of us were convinced that Lex Luthor would be the big bad of the Superman reboot. Naturally, there were many names drifting around over who'd portray the evil genius. The strangest of the lot was Bradley Cooper. In fact, many media outlets believed that he was set to star in the film alongside Henry Cavill. In retrospect, while Cooper might sound like an odd choice for Luthor, he certainly couldn't have been any worse than Jesse "I'm not the Riddler" Eisenberg. Plus, things didn't turn out too bad for Cooper, as he went on to provide the voice of Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy and is now a mainstay in the MCU.
