The directing duo had a free-for-all with diehard fans of the Marvel franchise, who asked them a bunch of questions relating to the movie and the MCU in general. Among other things, one person asked whether there’s a director’s cut of Avengers: Endgame that the brothers might release in the future. To this, the Russos had a very definite answer, saying:

Honestly no, we have always released the version of the movie we wanted to, so you would never see a director’s cut of a Russo Brothers’ Marvel movie because you have already seen it

We’re not really sure if this answer will make fans happy or sad. After all, the original cut of Avengers: Endgame was rumored to be over three hours long. That means there are a bunch of extra scenes that were filmed but edited out of the final version of the movie. And diehard fans will surely want to watch the extra material.

But on the other hand, the Russos seem sure that the version of the film that’s already released is the best version from their point of view. The deleted scenes apparently don’t add anything significant to the narrative, which is why they were cut in the first place. Like the scene with the heroes kneeling before Tony Stark’s dead body, which was removed because it was too similar to the funeral scene at the end.

In any case, it’s refreshing to see filmmakers stand by the studio-mandated cut of their movie. A lot of times, superhero flicks get caught in a tug of war between the studio’s expectations and the director’s vision. It happened with Zack Snyder on Justice League, David Ayer on Suicide Squad and Josh Trank on Fantastic Four. But thankfully, the Russos don’t seem to have that problem.
