6) Project 42 – The Negative Zone Prison
As a “solution” to the problem of how the captured anti-registration heroes will be punished, Reed Richards and Tony Stark come up with a prison hidden within the Negative Zone that would house them – infinitely. This prison was name Project 42 (or Prison 42, later on) as it was the 42nd of a number of projects that Richards worked on during this time.
The prison itself was a dividing element within Tony Stark’s pro registration heroes, and it was labelled an especially inhumane punishment for the superhuman heroes who’d never done anything illegal before opposing the act. It is also ultimately one of the things that leads Peter Parker to reconsider his stance in the conflict, when he himself questions Stark’s judgement in using such a method.
So far the Negative Zone hasn’t been introduced to the MCU, and hasn’t even made an appearance in any Fantastic Four movie where its originator Reed Richards is based. Even if Marvel did feel like shoe-horning this extra dimension into Civil War, it’s not likely they’d employ something as divisive as this in a movie that is always expected to maintain a certain family-friendly element under Disney’s watchful eye…
