7 Moments We Want To See In Captain America: Civil War, But Probably Won’t

By setting its story around one of the biggest Marvel Comics events of all-time, Captain America: Civil War is certainly building up its fair share of excitement before its 2016 release. The knowledge that it will once again group so many of the heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is intriguing enough, but the addition of a brand new Spider-Man and a tense, earth-shattering conflict between heroes means that this is one comic adaptation not to miss. With filming now reportedly complete for the movie and fans waiting for their first official glimpse of their favourite heroes in action, it's time to start thinking about just how much of the huge, all-encompassing Civil War storyline we can expect to see on the big screen. Many of the main plot points have been all but confirmed, but the comic story was vast and took place in a much more heavily populated heroic universe. As a result, there'll also be a great deal of content that viewers are unlikely to get to see in this big-screen adaptation. We took a look back through the pages of Marvel's Civil War event to consider some of the most important elements that we're not likely to witness when Captain America: Civil War arrives in 2016. From that, we've put together a list of seven moments that will (probably) be unfortunately missing from the conflict on the big screen. While it's true that the film can function without most, there'll surely be a few here that you'll miss! WARNING: Many spoilers from the Civil War comic story follow, so proceed at your own peril if you've never read it... 7) The New Warriors And Nitro There's already been a number of suggestions as to what catastrophic event will spark the events of Civil War, but none of the early speculation seems to ring true with the straw that broke the camel's back in the pages of the comic. This isn't entirely surprising, however, as the event in the comics featured characters who are all yet to appear on screen in the MCU. In the comics, a group of young heroes known as the New Warriors run into trouble against Nitro whilst filming a documentary that's supposed to boost their profile in a world already full of popular heroes. Once cornered and taunted by Namorita, Nitro unleashes a huge explosion that kills himself, all but one of the New Warriors and hundreds of civilians. It's the outrage at this power-fuelled tragedy that sparks the demand for the Superhuman Registration Act, as the public's mistrust of these untrained rogues reaches a peak. It's highly likely that the event that mirrors this on screen will follow a similar makeup - perhaps with the events of Age Of Ultron already serving as enough fuel for the public outcry - but we almost certainly won't see the early events of this comic story in the movie. 6) Project 42 - The Negative Zone Prison As a "solution" to the problem of how the captured anti-registration heroes will be punished, Reed Richards and Tony Stark come up with a prison hidden within the Negative Zone that would house them - infinitely. This prison was name Project 42 (or Prison 42, later on) as it was the 42nd of a number of projects that Richards worked on during this time. The prison itself was a dividing element within Tony Stark's pro registration heroes, and it was labelled an especially inhumane punishment for the superhuman heroes who'd never done anything illegal before opposing the act. It is also ultimately one of the things that leads Peter Parker to reconsider his stance in the conflict, when he himself questions Stark's judgement in using such a method. So far the Negative Zone hasn't been introduced to the MCU, and hasn't even made an appearance in any Fantastic Four movie where its originator Reed Richards is based. Even if Marvel did feel like shoe-horning this extra dimension into Civil War, it's not likely they'd employ something as divisive as this in a movie that is always expected to maintain a certain family-friendly element under Disney's watchful eye... 5) Punisher Takes Things Too Far We already know that Jon Bernthal is currently filming scenes as Frank Castle for Netflix's upcoming second season of Daredevil (check out some set photos above), but perhaps the hopes that he may have snuck into the scenes of Captain America: Civil War is a little to0 farfetched. In the comic story, however, Castle does have a fairly sizeable role with Cap's anti registration heroes. That is until he is rejected from the team by Steve Rogers for taking matters a little too far into his own hands. As the conflict is escalating, Punisher arrives just in time to stop Jester and Jack O'Lantern from killing a gravely injured Spider-Man. Rather than simply rescue the wounded hero though, he proceeds to shoot both villains dead before leaving the scene. This prompts Cap' to force him from the team - despite previously having played a crucial part - and exclaiming that he requires "heroes not murderers" in the fight. While a scene like this would be superb in reaffirming Captain America's high morality even in such a tense conflict, the whole thing would again be a little too 'anti-Disney.' 4) Tony Stark Offers Redemption To Villains As the conflict between the two sets of heroes reaches dramatic escalations, Tony Stark turns to some rather drastic measures as he tries to bolster his team of pro registration heroes. Offering them a clean slate and exoneration from their prior activities, Stark opens dialogue with a number of villains whom he convinces to fight on his side during the final stages. Ignoring the fact that there probably aren't quite enough villains who've been introduced into the MCU, it's still not probable that this version of Stark would turn to them even if he could. In his big screen portrayal so far, Stark has been presented as a nobler character than his comic counterpart and it isn't likely he would abandon this during the events of Civil War. While there's always a very slim chance that a popular villain like Loki could be persuaded into the conflict, this is still a huge outside chance and not something we are expecting to see when the movie finally releases. 3) Thor's Rampage While technically not the Thor we all know and love, there is a version of the God of Thunder that has a fairly disastrous input into the events of Civil War when a clone is sent into a battle between both sets of heroes. Once there, however, the clone proves to be out of control and proceeds to destroy the hero Goliath before he is restrained by his teammates. The fact that it is a clone of Thor that does this in the comics wouldn't necessarily be the deciding factor in this not appearing in the movie, as the real version of the norse god could quite conceivably be as hot-headed when plunged into the conflict- albeit without actually taking a life. What's more problematic is that Marvel will be keen to keep Thor as clean as possible before his own third film - Thor:Ragnarok - arrives in 2017. With a fairly abrupt departure at the end of Age Of Ultron, Thor probably isn't going to be taking much of a role in Civil War, if in fact he appears at all. Certainly don't expect to see him running riot in a hero v. hero battle in 2016. 2) Aunt May's Death Certainly one of the most upsetting moments in the aftermath of the Civil War conflict - though largely eclipsed by another, shocking moment - was the loss suffered by Peter Parker. After learning of his foe's secret identity when Spider-Man unmasks himself at Tony Stark's side, the Kingpin arranges for an assassin to track Parker's family with the intention of having him kill someone close to him. The assassin succeeds when he is able to hit Aunt May with a bullet that Peter pushes MJ away from, thus driving Peter into a wild rage that even sees him return to his black, symbiote-styled suit in the resulting comic storyline. This would be a hugely emotional moment to bring into the movie, especially given it will be the first time we meet this new on-screen iteration of Parker, and is likely to be one we are deprived of. It's easy to see why, given that Marvel will want Aunt May around for the upcoming Spidey reboots, but just imagine what a shocking event this would be if it did make its way into the movie. There would certainly be tears. 1) Captain America's Assassination Ultimately the most affecting moment at the end of the story was the apparent death of Cap' himself. After standing down for the greater good in his final conflict with Iron Man, Captain America denounces his role and agrees to stand trial for his opposition of the registration as Steve Rogers. On the day of his trial for these crimes, Rogers is shot by a sniper and seemingly killed by the bullet. This results in Rogers being absent from the Marvel comics universe for quite some time, although it is later revealed that he was actually hit by a bullet that merely phased him out of space and time instead. Rogers does manage to find a way back to his earth again, but his role as Captain America over the following years has been on and off, with Bucky taking up the reigns on numerous occasions. While this could certainly happen in the movie, given the existence of the requisite characters around him, it's hard to see Marvel dropping one of their trump cards when you consider the immense importance they've been putting on the likes of Cap and Iron Man. Comic stories have been re-written to accommodate these guys before - consider the way Stark was used as the creator of Ultron - and Captain America is also likely to be crucial to the Infinite War story that will be worked into the next stage of Avengers movies. Although it would be a huge and touching dramatic moment to include, there's simply too much for the MCU to lose by killing Cap' off at this stage in their movie timeline. So, that was depressing, wasn't it? It seems that many of the conflict's gritty or dramatic events aren't likely to appear in Captain America: Civil War, but there's still more than enough to be excited about seeing on the big screen.
