Legion’s Aubrey Plaza Campaigning To Play Catwoman In The Batman

Now that Robert Pattinson has been locked in for The Batman, the hunt is on to cast the next Catwoman. As Selina Kyle is one of the most iconic female characters in the superhero sphere, many actresses have thrown their name in to be considered to play the anti-heroine in the DCEU in recent years. Child's Play and Legion star Aubrey Plaza is the latest though, and she's now given her "audition" for the role in a unique way.

While on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress was asked about all the times she’s talked about wanting to play Catwoman in the past. In a hilarious bit, the host then distracts Plaza with a toy and a saucer of water, before the star lets loose and crawls on the table, even licking Colbert’s face. You can watch the full interview above (the Catwoman chat kicks off about 7 minutes in).

Plaza has been discussing her Catwoman ambitions for years. Back in 2017, for example, her movie Ingrid Goes West memorably featured a scene in which the actress’ character role-plays as Catwoman in the bedroom for her Batman-obsessed boyfriend. Plaza explained at the time that she pushed for the scene as she thought it would be the closest she’d ever come to portraying the character for real.

As you surely know by now, Selina Kyle is widely reported to play a big role in Matt Reeves’ reboot of the Dark Knight, as part of a whole rogues gallery of villains who’ll feature. Others include the Penguin, Riddler and likely Two-Face, while Mad Hatter and Firefly are expected to show up as well. We Got This Covered has also reported that a secret seventh villain could also be revealed in the film.

In any case, as we wait to see if her feline talk show antics will be enough to get her the Catwoman gig, Aubrey Plaza stars in the upcoming Child’s Play, hitting cinemas on June 21st, as well as Legion, which premieres its third season on June 24th.
