6 Deadpool Storylines That Should Be Used In The Sequel

With talk of Deadpool 2 seriously starting to heat up now, it's only appropriate to explore some of the character's story arcs that deserve to be on the silver screen. From his surprisingly tragic romance with Death to fighting an evil version of himself, the Merc with a Mouth has an abundance of source material that would make for cinematic gold. Being an incredibly versatile character, Wade Wilson could work into most scenarios as long as he has the opportunity to be absurd and make witty one-liners. Whilst not all of these storylines are possible due to character rights, it's always good to remain hopeful - everybody thought the same with Spider-Man and The Avengers not too long ago, remember? So, without further ado, here are six Deadpool storylines that would be well suited for the upcoming sequel. 1) The Good, The Bad and The Ugly With a combination of the righteous ethics of Captain America, the blunt and deadly ruthlessness of Wolverine and the downright nonsensical madness of Deadpool, this film would no doubt be a very memorable outing for the titular anti-hero, and one that fans would get a kick out of. Not only would there be an interesting and appealing conflict between these three characters (who wouldn’t want to see adamantium claws strike against Cap‘s vibranium shield?), but there would also be satisfying links to both the MCU and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Universe. Whether the comic is followed beat for beat or not, the possibilities for the plot of this pipe dream motion picture are still endless. 2) Uncanny X-Force Having a team made up of Deadpool, Archangel, Wolverine, Psylocke and more gives 20th Century Fox the opportunity to show off character dynamics that wouldn't be seen elsewhere. Tasked with a controversial mission of stopping Apocalypse whilst he's still a child reveals a serious side to Deadpool and proves that he really does have a moral compass, albeit an obscure one. The team-up element of the story would also provide an abundance of chemistry to be displayed on screen, including Psylocke and Archangel’s unsteady relationship and Deadpool’s attitude towards the leader of the team, Wolverine. An Uncanny X-Force film could also make for dramatic suspense and a race against time, including large action set peices and plenty of comical dialogue, such as Wilson going toe-to-toe with one of the Four Horsemean of the Apocalypse whilst singing "War" by Edwin Starr. 3) The Night Of The Living Deadpool Everything is more awesome with zombies, and Deadpool is definitely no exception. Featuring violence and comedy in spades, this storyline has the potential to be pure cinematic gold as well as a fresh look at the superhero genre. With a story by Cullen Bunn, who has a strong history of writing the Merc with a Mouth, a film adaptation of this comic book series would not only be exciting, but with an experienced writer behind the source material, it's practically guaranteed to be a hit. And, should it be a success (with the combination of Reynolds’ stellar acting, zombies and the inevitable gore, it’s safe to assume it would be), it could pave the way for other Marvel Zombies productions. 4) Joe Kelly's Deadpool Omnibus Many fans of the character consider this series as the defining one for Deadpool and believe that it's a must-read. Not only does it include the vital comedy and action that is essential for the character, but it also features emotional development for Deadpool that shows there's more to the mercenary than his mouth and katanas. This approach to Wade is vastly different from the 2016 film and would give the audience an awareness of the character's immersive history and relationships with those around him. Given the experience and devotion that Ryan Reynolds has for Deadpool, it would be safe to say that a popular and respected storyline such as this one would be in safe hands in terms of acting. 5) Daniel Way's Deadpool Run Comprised of impractical fun and over-the-top eccentrics, this run would translate well onto the big screen for a younger audience as well as an older one. Having a race of shape shifting aliens who believe earth is rightfully theirs allows suspense and mystery to be introduced to the film, much like Captain America: The Winter Soldier's reveal that S.H.I.E.L.D had been infiltrated by the villainous Hydra. These aliens, the Skrulls, have strong ties to the Fantastic Four as well, making this an opportunity for the reboot to crossover into the current X-Men universe. Bringing in other superhero teams isn’t necessary for the story, but as the likes of Ant-Man proved, the inclusion of another superhero will boost the success of the film greatly. FF and X-Men or not though, Deadpool telling a race of aliens to take him to their leader is definitely something we need to see on the big screen. 6) The Deadpool Corps Why stick to having one Deadpool when you can have several? From Lady Deadpool to Dogpool to Galactuspool, this storyline has them all. The unabashed parody of DC's Green Lantern Corps is relentless in terms of comedy and absurdity, including the dubiously (yet hilariously) similar oath: "Through lightest dark or darkest light, You don't need no bling to join the fight. We're mercs with mouths and so much more, Yippee-ki-yay, we're the Deadpool Corps!" Longtime comic book fans and newcomers to the character alike would be able to appreciate and enjoy this film, which would, without a doubt, be full of hilarious one-liners and unbelievably witty dialogue. Whether any of these comic book story arcs will ever be featured in a motion picture or not (and let's be real, the likelihood of Wolverine and Captain America appearing on screen together is extremely low), remains to be seen, but no matter which of these storylines the writers turn to for Deadpool 2, if any, we're no doubt in for another wild ride featuring the Merc with a Mouth.
