Did Deadpool 2 Manage To Avoid Suffering From Sequelitis?

Deadpool 2 is finally out and looks set to break numerous box office records. But after so much hype and anticipation, did the film deliver?

Setting Up X-Force

As it turns out, blogger Jeremy Conrad was correct about the film’s treatment of the X-Force. A seminal character like Shatterstar was purely used as a gag, as he and several of his cohorts met their demise. Fans of the popular group might not be too happy about how these members were used for a silly joke, as it did spit in the face of the team’s legacy, but this is a Deadpool movie, so there are no sacred cows here.

Still, you can’t help but feel cheated by all the previous teasers. While the trailers led us to believe the team would form a big part of the proceedings, we were hoodwinked in the end. It was a risky move by the filmmakers, and so far no one’s criticized it all that much, so maybe it’s just us who feel this introduction failed.

Look, it’s entirely possible that everything could be undone by the next movie because Deadpool has Cable’s time-traveling device and already used it to save Peter. He could’ve utilized it to save the others as well; therefore, making the events of this past film null and void. Alternatively, maybe they’re all gone and Drew Goddard’s X-Force will introduce other team members.

In terms of the positives, though, Cable and Domino have been warmly received, so it’s dead certain they’ll play a huge part of X-Force going forward, along with the Merc. Who’ll join them, though, still remains a mystery, but we’d bank on the line-up being similar to the first one introduced in the comic book series.
