No Pressure To Retell The Batman’s Origin Story

What’s the one thing that we learned from Spider-Man: Homecoming? That regurgitated origin stories are dead and there’s no need for them at this stage anymore. If you don’t know how the mainstream superheroes came to be by now, chances are that you aren’t the target market for these films in the first place.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has already handled the Waynes’ death and the subsequent psychological trauma that it caused to poor Bruce, so there’s absolutely no requirement for Reeves to touch upon it again. Instead, he can focus on exploring all the other angles and storylines that made Bruce so bitter. For example, we could get references to Jason Todd’s death, or Dick Grayson quitting as Robin to become Nightwing. Basically, look at all the things that broke the Bat’s spirit and faith in humanity.

There’s a freedom to this Batman at the moment, and Reeves can really go in any direction that he chooses with it. He’s been handed the keys to the kingdom, with a healthy boost of creative control as well, so what more could he need or want? It’s like every person’s dream to create their own Dark Knight story.
