It looks like the Ghost Rider sequel may actually kick some ass. Now that a fierce bullet-spitting trailer and sleek movie poster have hit the net, doubts may be fading regarding the loser-ness of the second installment in this franchise, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Nicolas Cage returns as the titular character in this big screen comic book adaptation, but the difference might be made by Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor helming the project. From the trailer it looks like they’ve captured that crazy non-stop action style of Crank, and added some much-needed authentic bad-ass action to the sequel.

The original is generally hated by all. Cage isn’t my favorite actor anyway, but excluding his “meh” performance (yes, that’s my professional opinion), the CGI and concept art wasn’t terrible. It looks like they’ve gone a different way as far as Ghost Rider’s look and design in the sequel, and maybe added some grittier action.

Eva Mendes is not returning as Johnny Blaze’s (aka Ghost Rider) love interest in this sequel. The story surrounds a secret cult in Eastern Europe who recruits Johnny Blaze to protect a young boy from the Devil (Ciaran Hinds). He doesn’t want to use his “devil’s bounty hunter” powers, but finds he must use them to save the boy, and maybe find a way out of the curse.

Check out the new trailer and poster below. Be prepared for some crazy angles and stylized action, as well as some bullet-spitting and pissing fire.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens on February 17th, 2012.
