5) Is Peter Still A Celestial?
As we’ve known for a while now, thanks to the controversial decision to reveal the news long before the film came out, Peter Quill finally finds out who his alien father is in Vol. 2: Kurt Russell’s Ego the Living Planet. In the movie, we find out that Ego is a Celestial, a god-like (small ‘g’) being. As such, Peter has inherited his dad’s incredible powers. His heritage is the reason he was able to hold the Orb for so long in the climax to Guardians of the Galaxy.
In the sequel, however, Ego’s crazy ploy for universal domination means that Peter and his friends have to destroy Ego’s planet. Both Ego, in his human form, and Peter drew their powers from the planet, so we’re left wondering whether Star-Lord has lost the Celestial abilities that allowed him to handle Infinity Stones. Hopefully for him, he hasn’t, as he’s about to face a guy with a gauntlet full of them.
4) What Role Will Stakar’s Team Play In Vol. 3?
Kurt Russell isn’t the only 1980s icon to join the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Sylvester Stallone makes his first comic book movie appearance since 1995’s Judge Dredd in the film, playing Ravager leader Stakar. Marvel comics fans will know the character better as Starhawk, a member of the original Guardians team.
What’s more, Stakar is joined by the rest of the original team by the end of Vol. 2, in one of the many post-credits scenes. After Yondu’s funeral, Stakar unites several of the Ravagers captains together. Namely, Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Martinex T’Naga (Michael Rosenbaum) and Mainframe (Miley Cyrus). The sequence ends with Stakar declaring: “let’s go steal some sh*t!”
James Gunn has confirmed that the OG Guardians will return for Vol. 3, which will be the closer to this first trilogy of Guardians of the Galaxy movies. But what role will they play exactly? Will they be allies to the team? Or, seeing as the Ravagers and the Guardians haven’t always seen eye to eye, maybe they’ll be enemies?
