Yes, with the release of the new Tomb Raider game by Crystal Dynamics came news that MGM would also be rebooting the film franchise, but without previous star Angelina Jolie. Much like the game, the new film would essentially reboot the Lara Croft story, starting over with a brand new arc and brand new actress. There’s no front-runner at the time for who studios are trying to grab for Lara, but some recent retweets by Atwell have started somewhat of an Internet campaign suggesting the actress is interested:

Worth noting is the fact that actress Camilla Luddington (Grey’s Anatomy/True Blood/Californication) was the lucky voice-actress picked to bring this new pixelated version of Lara Croft to life, so there’s no reason why she can’t be in the running as well.

Personally though, I think Atwell would be a great actress to start a new Tomb Raider franchise. Not comparing her to any other actresses, Atwell showed in Captain America: The First Avenger she has the strong and independent personality a badass adventurer needs, as well as the physical curves that have become Croft’s signature over time. Given the fact that she seems to be reacting pretty positively to this Lara Croft commotion, how does she not jump to the top of any casting hot list?

Fan reaction is always strong when bringing high-profile video games to the big screen, but we also have to keep in mind they don’t always have the last say – but their voices can’t hurt either.
