The film ends and the credits start to roll. What do you do? Well, most people are quick to leave the cinema, eager to regain feeling in their butts, relieve their bladders and begin the long journey home. Depending on the movie though, some viewers choose to stay behind and wait until after the credits have finished, all in the hope that the filmmakers might have added an extra scene or two at the end. Pixar and Marvel Studios are particularly renowned for this, and while the wait may be long, it's a great way of encouraging audiences to stay in their chairs and see the names of all the talent involved in the filmmaking process. Though it's certainly nice to acknowledge the effort that is put into making the movies we all know and love, sitting in the dark while a million random names scroll down the screen isn't exactly the most enjoyable way to spend ten minutes or so. However, the eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that some more playful filmmakers occasionally enjoy including hidden messages in the credits, designed to amuse and surprise in equal measure. Next time you stand up to leave the cinema, remember to wait a few minutes and scan the credits closely. Read on to discover sixteen funny messages that we can guarantee most of you missed as the credits rolled. 16) Killer Tomatoes Eat France (1991) As the third (!?) entry in the Killer Tomatoes franchise, Killer Tomatoes Eat France may not be the highest quality film ever made about tomatoes... that kill, but it should have a special place in the hearts of audiences everywhere just for the hilarious messages hidden in the credits. It turns out that the film "was shot entirely on location in France, except for bits that were filmed elsewhere." Good to know. Also, Killer Tomatoes Eat France is ASPCT Approved, so "no tomatoes were mistreated or injured during production of this motion picture, except those who deserved it." Presumably, that would be all of them then, but has anyone actually seen this movie to confirm that? Perhaps some of the tomatoes are just misunderstood... 15) RoboCop (1987) Piracy warnings are a legal requirement, so audiences are used to seeing them appear alongside every movie they see, but this overexposure can numb their impact somewhat. However, the filmmakers behind the original RoboCop decided to take the anti-piracy message more seriously, hoping to warn off potential criminals with a more lethal form of retribution. The message here? If the copyright authorities are smart, they'll consider hiring law enforcement droids to put an end to piracy once and for all. 14) Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) Chris Pratt may have starred in Marvel's offbeat intergalactic epic as team leader Star-Lord, but the breakout stars were bounty hunters Rocket Raccoon and Groot. The pair suffer a number of close calls in their line of work, so it's reassuring to discover in the end credits that "no raccoons or tree creatures were harmed during the making of this film." Lord knows CGI actors don't have enough rights as it is! 13) An American Werewolf In London (1981) An American Werewolf in London both amused and horrified audiences alike upon its release in 1981, although US audiences took longer to warm to the film, despite the nationality of the main protagonist. Director John Landis himself is American, but the film still has a predominantly British tone that may have alienated viewers from overseas. This is most evident in the credits, where Landis bizarrely inserted an end title congratulating Prince Charles and Princess Diana on their recent wedding. It would be a surprise to learn that British royalty even watch comic werewolf capers, let alone stick around until the credits have finished playing, but one must never presume. 12) Help! (1965) From one British classic to another, we now turn to the Beatles second feature Help!, which features a surprising dedication to Elias Howe in the credits, the man "who invented the sewing machine in 1846." Some believe that the dream which inspired Howe to invent the sewing machine also inspired a scene in the film where Ringo Starr is similarly surrounded by tribe natives who are threatening him with spears. Alternatively, screenwriters Charles Wood and Marc Behm may have just been high off their faces... 11) Airplane II: The Sequel (1982) The title of Airplane II: The Sequel tells you exactly what to expect from this spoof comedy, but it's impressive that the film's self awareness continues even into the credits sequence. The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted a surprise cameo from a famous, yet slightly unpopular historical figure. Oh, and seriously, what is a gaffer? 10) Hot Shots! (1991) Members of the team behind Airplane! continued making off the wall comedies with the Hot Shots! pair of films, which maintained the tradition of bizarre credits. As well as including baking recipes for audiences to try out at home, the end of the credits sequence in the first film informs viewers that "IF YOU HAD LEFT THIS THEATRE WHEN THESE CREDITS BEGAN, YOU'D BE HOME NOW." If you'd followed their advice though, then you wouldn't have a brand new recipe for nobby buns to try out at home! Test the recipe, we dare you. 9) Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) It turns out that spoof comedies are far more educational than you may first believe, but you'll have to wait until the credits have rolled to learn about some of the more obscure roles people adopt on set. Why waste money on film school when you can pick up the basics in your local multiplex? 8) Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult The final installment of the Naked Gun trilogy continued the wacky hidden messages, helping out car owners in trouble and chronicling the extinction of numerous animals. At this stage, there's no point asking why. Just go with it. 7) A Serious Man (2009) The Coen Brothers have explored dark humor to great effect in a number of their most iconic films, and A Serious Man is no exception. After the final scene ends, an announcement appears stating that "no Jews were harmed in the making of this motion picture," The disclaimer is amusing to start off with, but when you actually start to think about how the Jewish characters are treated in the film, the gag begins to take on a more ironic meaning. 6) This Is Spinal Tap (1984) When the music mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap was first released, the majority of audiences believed that the band was actually real, despite there being a message in the credits that states “the band Spinal Tap is fictional. And there’s no Easter Bunny, either!” Ironically, the cult success of the movie allowed the three actors who played the group members to record actual albums which are now available on a digital download store near you! 5) Mr. Poppers Penguin's (2011) It may seem surprising that the filmmakers behind Mr. Popper's Penguins inserted a gag after the credits, but to be fair, they probably felt that they owed their audience as they'd failed to include anything funny in the actual movie before. It's as if whoever thought of including this disclaimer was already disappointed with Carrey's performance and felt he needed to be punished in some form. Brilliant. 4) Mallrats (1995) Kevin Smith regularly mentions his parents in the credits of his movies. For example, in Dogma, Smith asks "who raised me Catholic, more or less?" His funniest message, though, appears in his second feature, Mallrats, where he thanks his Mom and Dad "for having sex all those years ago." Although, audiences who saw his film Jersey Girl may disagree... 3) Frozen (2013) In Disney's colossal hit Frozen, the lead male Kristoff claims that all men eat their own boogers. Someone working behind the scenes at The Walt Disney Company clearly felt self-conscious enough about that to include a special disclaimer, making it clear that Kristoff's views are purely his own and are not shared by the company as a whole. Pretty suspicious if you ask us though... 2) Pulp Fiction (1994) Quentin Tarantino is another director who loves to play with the conventions of cinema and reference the work of himself and others whenever possible. In the end credits for Pulp Fiction, the Coffee Shop Manager, who is played by Robert Ruth, is credited as just 'Coffee Shop.' The reason for this is that when Tim Roth holds a gun to Ruth's head and starts yelling "Are you gonna be a hero?" the manager starts to respond by saying "I'm just a Coffee Shop-" before Roth cuts him off early with another rant. That's the official explanation, although there's always the chance that Ruth just has some extremely bizarre identity issues... 1) Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975) For the top spot on this list, just one little gag is not enough, so Monty Python and the Holy Grail are clearly the undisputed winners here with their off the wall credit sequence that fires joke after joke at the viewer. Starting with unusual 'Swedish' subtitles, the gags become more and more strange until a title card apologizes for the fault in the subtitles, informing viewers that "those responsible have been sacked." When problems persist, a further announcement is made, stating that "those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked." Surprisingly, or perhaps not for those who are fans of the Monty Python troupe, things continue to escalate from there. While these jokes are easier to find compared to others on the list, they're also undeniably the funniest and certainly the most memorable.
