Everything You Need To Know About Justice League

Currently, in the world of theatrical film, we are awash with superheroes. It is virtually impossible to pay a visit to the local multiplex without being bombarded with the latest marketing scheme for the next comic book adaptation. These characters, it seems, are practically queuing up to impress us with their amazing feats and remarkable prowess, and there is no sign that anyone intends to stem the flow any time soon. If anything, that tide is rising.

Justice League Trinity War

In their first appearance, back in 1960, Justice League of America battled Starro The Conqueror, who was a giant, mind-controlling starfish from space. Since then, they have fought many enemies and defeated many foes, the majority of which hail from individual comic book series, but variously also cause the team to work together in battle. Darkseid, Lex Luthor, The Joker, Gorilla Grodd, Eclipso, Maxwell Lord, Doomsday, Imperiex, Vandal Savage, Circe, and Brainiac have all featured on the pages of Justice League stories.

There have been a number of especially notable battles in the course of Justice League history, however. Justice League of America #9 (1962) sees the Appelaxians invade Earth, for example, turning it into a battleground for different alien species, with the winner taking control of the planet. Justice League: Cry For Justice (part of Justice League of America: vol 2) sees the team assemble under the leadership of Vixen, and do battle with Prometheus. That conflict ended with the brutal destruction of Star City, and a death toll in the hundreds of thousands.

Trinity War took place after The New 52 reboot, and featured an epic conflict between Justice League and the two alternate spinoff teams launched at the same time – Justice League of America (formed by Amanda Waller), and Justice League Dark (featuring characters such as Constantine, Deadman and Zatana). This battle saw Shazam join the team, and Atom to be revealed as a villain.
