While Cyborg is being created, Batman and Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) are battling a Parademon in Gotham. They approach Metropolis to seek assistance from Superman, but the Man of Steel attacks them instead, perceiving them as a threat until Batman convinces him otherwise. The three heroes are then joined in battle by The Flash and, later still, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. It is then that Cyborg arrives, and the line-up is complete.
Hal Jordan/Green Lantern is therefore conspicuous in his absence from the Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice cast list – but it should be noted that actor Scoot McNairy features in an undisclosed role. The film will almost certainly not be intended as a direct adaptation of any particular comic book story, but DC has always been notable for the reverent way in which it regards its source material. This being the case, while many plot details may differ – the broadest of strokes might well be recognizable.
This leads to speculation about the villain of the piece. Warner Bros., DC and the filmmakers themselves are working very hard to keep the identity of the ‘Big Bad’ of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice under wraps – and so they should, because officially revealing your villain too soon can catastrophically reduce its impact. There is suggestion – thanks to the appearance of Genral Zod’s corpse in the trailer – that it may be Doomsday, and that subsequently, the planned Justice League: Part One and Part Two will feature Brainiac. Could it be Parademons in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, leading to Darkseid in the later Justice League films? Perhaps Parademons and Darkseid feature now, with the dead General Zod being a tease for Doomsday and Brainiac in the later films. Or, perhaps none of that is accurate. There is one big, clear, inescapable truth, though – and that is that it’s going to be an historic amount of fun finding out.
Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is released on March 25th, 2016. Justice League: Part One is currently scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 17th, 2017, while Justice League: Part Two is slated for June 14th, 2019.
