Why The Justice League Trailer Is Good News For The DCEU

After all the excitement and build-up of the teasers, the Justice League trailer is finally here - and it's simply awesome. If the final edit of the film ends up anywhere near as good as this preview is, we're in for a treat. From Aquaman spearing parademons to Wonder Woman’s unmatched badassery, there's a real thrill seeing these legendary superheroes all united in one big screen adventure.

Barry Allen: What are your superpowers again?

Bruce Wayne: I’m rich.

That one interaction alone shows us the new direction of the DCEU. No longer are they the somber and humorless affairs that we knew, as this trailer showcases true moments of lightheartedness and fun. While I certainly hope it isn’t a full-blown comedy or includes too many one-liners, taking pages out of Batman: The Animated Series and the Justice League Unlimited’s approaches will certainly add heart to the film.

Music

Remember the schizophrenic soundtrack for Suicide Squad? From rap, to pop, to metal, the music was all over the place. While you might argue this matches the characters’ wacky personalities, music is crucial for conveying tone, hence all the head scratching about what the film was trying to be.

In the lead up to this trailer, we’ve heard the White Stripes’ “Icky Thump” as the song of choice in promotional material. However, this time around, the tunes selected are a hard-rock cover of the Beatles’ classic “Come Together” and the White Stripes’ “The Hardest Button to Button.” Dirty rock ‘n’ roll seems to be the golden thread here, setting up the promise of a headbanging, cinematic rock opera, which I’m more than okay with.
