For all of the buzz and excitement swirling around Alien: Covenant, there’s still much we don’t know about Ridley Scott’s sci-fi sequel – and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The returning Michael Fassbender has previously confirmed that he’ll play not one, but two synthetics come May – David, and the upgraded Walter – while Katherine Waterston’s mysterious Daniels continues to be conversation fodder for the Alien faithful. Is the actress’ newcomer simply a deep-space explorer with a propensity for extraterrestrial carnage? Or does her character actually hold ties to the great Ellen Ripley? Remember, Covenant is designed as a prequel, one that will seemingly bring Scott’s Prometheus saga closer in line with the original franchise.

Until such a time we have those answers, the latest Alien: Covenant picture has found its way online. First spotted by CBM, here we see Michael Fassbender’s Walter and Carmen Ejogo on board the Covenant ship looking particularly perplexed. It’s impossible to know for sure, but it seems this image is pulled from an early segment of Ridley Scott’s sequel, long before the crew crosses paths with those iconic, horrifying critters lurking on the planet. Once that fateful encounter transpires, Covenant will begin doling out the R-rated horror, and even though 20th Century Fox has only released one trailer to date, it proved a pointed reminder that Ridley Scott is injecting the scare factor back into this most beloved franchise.

Promising Facehuggers, Colonial Marines and a tweaked version of the iconic Xenomorph, Alien: Covenant will slither into theaters on May 19, 2017.
