Latest Marvel News: One more ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star flees the MCU as Sony’s attempt to save its Spider-Man universe backfires

The Guardians are all but gone at this point.

As we prepare for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to arrive in a week and a half’s time, James Gunn is getting surprisingly loose-lipped — or whatever the equivalent is for typing… loose-fingertipped? — on Twitter by letting slip a major revelation about a surprising casting shake-up. Although that’s nothing compared to another member of the cast confirming they’re out of the MCU following the threequel. Elsewhere, Marvel fans go right back to the beginning to contemplate the ultimate “What if…?”

‘Guardians 3’ might be switching Bradley Cooper out as Rocket, but someone else is saying goodbye to the franchise for good

No, don’t worry, Bradley Cooper is still playing Rocky in Guardians 3, but James Gunn has revealed that he’ll actually be sharing the role alongside someone else this time — which may sound sacriligious at first, but actually makes a lot of sense when you find out who it is. But while Cooper isn’t necessarily going anywhere, Zoe Saldana has revealed that she won’t be donning the green body-paint as Gamora again after this threequel, so we can add her name to the ever-growing list alongside Dave Bautista and Gunn himself. But, hey, at least we’re getting an unexpected Hawkeye casting crossover in the film!

Sony gifting Kraven the Hunter an R-rating only results in riling up Venom loyalists and inciting Morbius comparisons

Sony has announced Kraven the Hunter will be the first of its Spider-Man villain-centric spinoffs to sport an R-rating, which initially resulted in a wave of good vibes for the much-flogged franchise. But, as expected, it didn’t take long before the hate train pulled into the station once again. Now folks are angry that Sony didn’t make this move sooner and allow us more mature Venom movies that could’ve blown us away. Meanwhile, doomsayers are convinced aiming Kraven at adult audiences will only make it a Morbius-level bomb. Sorry, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but Kraven ain’t Deadpool.

As Disney Plus foregoes the MCU, Iron Man reminds us Marvel nearly found a streaming home on Paramount Plus

Disney Plus isn’t exactly treating the MCU right at this moment, what with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania remaining in streaming limbo, so it’s interesting to think about the universe out there where Marvel Studios was never sold to Disney in the first place. An innocent Iron Man time-lapse video has drawn fans’ attentions to the film’s opening frame, featuring the Paramount Pictures logo — Phase One was released by that studio, remember — and left pondering the Watcher’s favorite question. We wonder if the Earth where Paramount kept hold of the MCU already has Quantumania available on Paramount Plus?
