Using Titanic terminology when talking about the MCU’s current box office woes, what with James Cameron’s long history of merciless Marvel mockery, might seem like rubbing salt in the wound, but we’re doing it anyway. It’s true, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the sorry state of Marvel Studios’ theatrical performance, something proven by some alarming new figures. But money isn’t everything, as a more accurate Rotten Tomatoes ranking makes clear.
While Quantumania‘s financial fate goes from bad to worse, the Multiverse Saga secures every single one of the MCU’s biggest box office implosions
Quantumania already beat out the worst that DC, Fox, and Sony had to offer to land the record for the biggest superhero movie second-weekend box office drop of all time, but things are only getting worse for the threequel. The latest stats reveal Ant-Man 3 has slumped over 80 percent in its earning from one Monday to the next. And yet the film isn’t existing in a vacuum as it’s been discovered that the franchise’s post-Avengers: Endgame era has given us all seven of the MCU’s worst box office implosions. They thought this ship was unsinkable, but we’re definitely seeing some cracks appearing in the hull…
Proving it’s all a matter of perspective, revamped Rotten Tomatoes ranking sees Phase Four movies declared the best of the MCU
On the other hand, a new way of looking at the MCU’s Rotten Tomatoes rankings reveals that, although the box office situation speaks for itself, the fan negativity towards the Multiverse Saga might’ve been blown out of proportion. When combining the review-aggregate site’s critics and audience scores, two Phase Four movies manage to land the top two spots on the franchise’s all-time ranking while Quantumania moves itself up out of joint-last, which just goes to show that there’s a lot more to enjoy about the past two years of Marvel than loud-mouth dissenters like to admit.
Marvel looks to be getting an(other) answer to Superman as a surprise casting choice for the Sentry reportedly takes flight
Meanwhile, the freshest scuttlebutt from the casting rumor mill is pointing to Marvel’s own answer to Superman (er, apart from Ikaris) having been found. We already knew that Steven Yeun was circling the MCU, and now word has it that The Walking Dead star will be playing Sentry in Thunderbolts. Yeun is a left-field choice for the part, but fans are excited to see what he would make of the character, should this intel turn out to be accurate. And if it is, we can likely expect Yeun to remain a key player in the franchise for many years to come.
Captain America: New World Order might be going down a dark path, but we’ll be there to light your way with more of the latest Marvel news before long.
