Though we’ve already seen two full Captain Marvel trailers and a fair bit more promotional footage to boot, it seems that Marvel Studios isn’t done sharing new material quite yet, with ESPN set to air an “exclusive look” at Carol Danvers’ solo debut on Monday, January 7th, during the College Football Playoff National Championship game. But if you’re anxious for an early glimpse of the promo to come, a user on Reddit has leaked a single image featuring Brie Larson opposite a young companion labeled as “little Monica.”
If the name doesn’t ring a bell for you, Monica Rambeau’s a hero from the comics who’s gone under numerous monikers, including Photon, Spectrum and even Captain Marvel. While it was a popular rumor early last year that the role will be played by Lashana Lynch, it’s since been confirmed that the British actress was cast as Monica’s mother Maria. And since the new movie will be taking things back to the ‘90s, there’s definite potential for Monica to grow up to be an important figure in the present-day MCU.

Either way, it’s clear that Marvel Studios will have a reason for setting their next story this far back in the timeline, and while we can safely assume that the movie will tee up Carol’s involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, we surely can’t rule out the film also sowing the seeds for some major Phase 4 developments.
In any case, we’re just one day away from seeing this image as part of the ESPN broadcast, which the Reddit user has claimed will contain “a lot of new footage” consisting of “mostly action and comedy.” But regardless what material the preview has to offer, all will be revealed when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
