Mads Mikkelsen’s Mystery Doctor Strange Role May Have Finally Been Revealed

Despite the release of a very cool teaser trailer, there's still an awful lot we don't know about Doctor Strange. The biggest mystery is who the villain will be, especially as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Baron Mordo appears to be an ally to The Ancient One and the Sorcerer Supreme.

Despite the release of a very cool teaser trailer, there’s still an awful lot we don’t know about Doctor Strange. The biggest mystery is who the villain will be, especially as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Baron Mordo appears to be an ally to The Ancient One and the Sorcerer Supreme.

We do, of course, know that Mads Mikkelsen is playing a bad guy, but his identity has remained a mystery…well, until now that is. A description for a wave of Diamond Select Doctor Strange minimates offers up character names for not only Rachel McAdams’ character, but also those being played by Mikkelsen and Zara Phythian.

A Diamond Select Toys Release! The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now the next entry in the long-running Marvel Minimates line! Series 70 of Marvel Minimates mini-figures travels to the world of the Doctor Strange movie, with four different two-packs: Dr. Strange with The Ancient One, Mordo with Kaecilius, the specialty-exclusive Stephen Strange with Christine Palmer and the specialty-exclusive Wong & Zealot! Each 2-inch Minimates mini-figure features 14 points of articulation and fully interchangeable parts. Each two-pack is packaged in a full-color window box.

In the comic books, Christine Palmer (McAdams) is better known as Night Nurse and embarked on a romantic relationship with Stephen Strange in Brian K. Vaughn and Marcos Martin’s critically acclaimed Doctor Strange: The Oath. Zealot (Phythian), meanwhile, appears to be a new creation, as the only character with that name is a pretty obscure mutant.

The biggest reveal is, of course, Mikkelsen being Kaecilius. A disciple of Mordo’s in the comics, he’s only made a handful of appearances over the years, so Marvel has a lot of creative freedom here.

With Comic-Con right around the corner, more about Doctor Strange will no doubt be revealed soon. Another trailer can’t be too far away either, while the movie itself is set to be released on November 4th.
