Zack Snyder’s Justice League isn’t regarded as official DCEU canon by either the director or Warner Bros., but fans have already decided that it’s their preferred version of the franchise’s all-star epic. Of course, that’s hardly a surprise when Joss Whedon’s theatrical release is held in such high disregard and holds such a bad reputation that even the guy who wrote it has described the studio-mandated cut as an act of vandalism.
Several major DC Films stars have supported the Snyder Cut right from the very beginning, with Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher the most notable, while Jared Leto has since publicly thanked the filmmaker for letting him have a second stab at the Joker, which yielded one of the most memorable moments in the 242-minute film when the Clown Prince of Crime finally got a lengthy verbal duel opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Nobody is obligated to watch everything the DCEU comes up with, though, which is why it shouldn’t really be much of a shock to discover that not only has Margot Robbie not seen the all-new and massively improved Justice League, but she didn’t even know Harley Quinn has been killed offscreen, and only found out when told in a new interview.
“What? I didn’t know that. Thank you for telling me! So, yeah, I didn’t know that, but it doesn’t necessarily change what other people are able to do with this universe, I don’t think. What one director decides I don’t think dictates what another director might be able to pick up and do with the world and the characters, which is fun. I think that’s an appealing aspect for directors in the DC world, they can make it their own, the way James Gunn did. He didn’t have to be beholden to the version that David Ayer set up. He could pick it up and make it his own, which I’m sure was more appealing for him.”
Harley’s death is one of the driving forces behind the Joker and Batman’s terse exchange of barbs, with the Jester of Genocide’s former flame asking the Dark Knight to promise her that the green-haired maniac would die slowly for what he’d done. It had fans desperate to see the duo reunited in a much larger capacity in a future project, and the rumors inevitably followed, but it doesn’t sound as though Robbie has been keeping her ear to the ground to remain caught up on the latest Justice League developments.
