One of the things that fans love most about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the frequent references to comic book lore than can go over the head of more casual audiences, but often end up planting the seeds for story threads that get paid off years down the line.
Perhaps the best example comes from the interaction between Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Donald Glover’s Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming. For the uninitiated, it just seems like a funny exchange between the two characters, but the fans that were aware of Davis’ comic book history as the Prowler and his family tree lost their minds at the reference to his nephew, which seemed to acknowledge that Miles Morales exists somewhere out there in the MCU.
Kevin Feige confirmed it soon after, and with Holland also admitting that he’d love to share the screen with Miles, it seems like only a matter of time until the fan favorite Spider-Man makes his official live-action debut. There’s been widespread speculation that he’ll eventually replace Peter Parker as the MCU’s full-time web-slinger, but knowing Marvel, they’ll no doubt introduce the character and establish him in the mythology first before making such a huge change to one of their marquee heroes.
Now that it appears to be a case of when rather than if Miles shows up in the MCU, the rumor mill is already in overdrive about where he could be parachuted into the franchise, and we’ve recently heard from our sources – the same ones that told Percy Jackson is being rebooted as a streaming series and the Guardians will be in Thor: Love and Thunder – that it might happen sooner than you think. In fact, right now the plan is for him to appear in two Phase 5 films.
We’re told that he’ll first show up in a brief cameo in Spider-Man 3, and then go on to appear in Captain Marvel 2. In neither movie will be have taken on the Spidey mantle, but apparently in the latter, he’ll have started to develop his powers. And while plans can always change as these films continue to develop, this is the path that Marvel has Miles on right now. As such, it might not be too long before we learn of the actor selected to bring the character to life.
