The Eternals promises to open up an exciting new corner of the MCU. The movie about a race of immortal cosmic beings will certainly have a talented cast, with Angelina Jolie heading the ensemble which also includes Richard Madden. As the project isn’t even officially confirmed to exist yet, the full roster isn’t yet known, but Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has been repeatedly rumored to be involved.
The latest outlet to claim that the Godzilla: King of Monsters actress will join the MCU in the movie is Variety. In their piece on the importance of Marvel’s Hall H panel at next weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, the trade briefly mentions that Brown has signed up for The Eternals.
Here’s the relevant passage:
“Supreme Geek and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is expected to unveil brand-new franchise starters at the convention in late July. Chief among them is “The Eternals,” a series about godlike alien beings to be adapted by indie director Chloé Zhao (“The Rider”) and starring Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden and “Stranger Things” lead Millie Bobby Brown.”
This is a bit of a surprise, as we’ve previously had it denied by two extremely reliable sources that Brown has been cast in the film. Specifically, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Brown herself. Back in May, the star seemed to have never heard of the property when questioned about it, while Feige reiterated that the actress doesn’t have a role in the franchise as yet just a couple of weeks ago.
Of course, both of them could’ve been telling some white lies to keep a lid on her casting until it’s time to properly announce it, but if we’re to take their comments at face value, then that’s pretty solid evidence that Brown is not going to appear in The Eternals. Fingers crossed those reports about Keanu Reeves playing the villain are onto something, though.
At least it’s not too long to go until we get to find out for sure. Marvel’s big SDCC panel, set to unveil their plans for Phase Four, will take place on Saturday, July 20th at 5:15pm.
