Yes, it's that special time of the year where dreams come true, family comes first, yule logs blaze, dreidels spin, Kwanzaa candles are lit (right?) - holiday charm so strong even old Remy and I are lulled into a charitable sense of giving. Nato – You’re Next (August 23rd, 2013, Lionsgate)

Director: Adam Wingard

Back in 2011, a little home invasion flick took horror festivals by storm, put director Adam Wingard on the map, got him a gig helping direct this year’s V/H/S – and we still haven’t f#cking seen the before mentioned smash-hit widely released. We’ve seen so much sh*t churned out through mainstream horror outlets, yet a universally praised festival hit which was the center of a major bidding war takes two whole years to see the light of day? As a fan, you really have to wonder who’s making these calls.

Familiar genre faces like Ti West and AJ Bowen lead a young cast against ruthless murderers content on killing off family members at what should have been a peaceful reunion, as the event turns into a bloody test of survival. One family member steps up and displays unexpected amounts of survival skills though, giving our villains an opposition to fear.

Can it be August yet?

Remy – Stoker (March 1st, 2013, Fox Searchlight)

Director – Park Chan-Wook

Park Chan-wook, best known for the flawless Oldboy, is finally making an American film. That film is called Stoker, and it is coming out in 2013. While the depth of the story is not know yet, what we do know is intriguing. The story centers around a young girl who recently lost her Father, and whose odd, all-but-unknown uncle shows up, out of the blue, and slowly changes the family dynamic. With the uber-talented Nicole Kidman as the widow, it is clear to see from the trailer and from the talent associated with this film that this will not be just another horror film, but what it will be we won’t know until the forthcoming year, but it is safe to say with Park at the wheel, things are going to be completely psychologically damning, and realistically, expect this film to be haunting and unforgettable.
