Nato And Remy’s Last Stand: 8 Family Friendly Horror Movies!

Since a child's mind exists at its most impressionable stage, what better time to start your son or daughter on a path to horror fandom? No, I'm not suggesting you subject your offspring to terrifying endeavors like The Exorcist or Child's Play right off the bat (unless you want to deal with those emotional scars the rest of their lives), but I AM encouraging horror loving parents to pass on the gift of spook. Get 'em while they're young, while their minds can still be molded and shaped to accept everything the horror genre has to offer, and then let them adventure off down their own twisted cinematic paths. Or just disown them when they run away screaming.

I will say it now, and you can throw your stones at me if you want, but Monster Squad is The Goonies of the “kid’s monster movies” genre. I am aware it wanted to be that, but what’s wrong with emulating something awesome? What’s wrong with showing some love to things that brought you joy? In this case, it was a sort of mash-up between all the awesome, golden age horror creatures (Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and so on), whilst bringing a Goonies-esquq charm along for the ride. Who would not be into that?

The Monster Squad is a perfect “family friendly kid’s movie” because it has every element that makes these sort of things work. There are some killer nods to fifties and sixties films for the parents, and there are dick jokes and monsters for the kids. I’m not saying that’s the exact formula, but if it ain’t broke, as they say.

Also, the “KICK HIM IN THE NARDS” Wolfman scene may be one of the greatest scenes in all of cinematic history. Really. Not even kidding. I will also begrudgingly admit that the “daughters of Dracula” scared the shit out of me in this movie. Don’t know why, but as a kid, they just did.
