Writer-director Chris McKay has addressed the possibility of Dick Grayson donning the famous white lenses in Warner's Nightwing movie.

Galvanized by his work on The LEGO Batman Movie, writer-director Chris McKay has come into Warner’s Nightwing movie guns blazing.

Casting is said to be well underway – for the record, Josh Gad, Colton Haynes (Arrow) and The Maze Runner‘s Dylan O’Brien have all been linked with the DCEU spinoff hitherto – and McKay has already championed the standalone movie as a “badass actioner” with a heavy dose of heart and emotion.

It’s the classic underdog story, really, as the filmmaker is of the belief that, while Dick Grayson is a world-renowned comic book character, he hasn’t been given an awful lot of screentime – particularly after Batman V Superman and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy nudged Nightwing onto the sidelines. But that’s all about to change, as Chris McKay is actively developing his own take on the industry’s greatest side-kick. Not only that, but the director may add a classical touch to Dick Grayson’s super-suit.

While responding to one curious fan via Twitter (h/t CBM), McKay hinted that his rendition of Nightwing will keep the ice-white lenses made famous by Dick Grayson’s comic book run. They’ve been conspicuously absent from the DC Extended Universe thus far, but it would seem things are about to change.

McKay’s first port of call will involve selecting an actor to play Dick Grayson on the big screen – assuming he hasn’t done so already, of course. There’s been nothing but radio silence from Warner Bros., whose slate is currently all filled up by Aquaman and Shazam!, along with direct sequels to Suicide Squad and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman – both of which are expected to grace theaters in 2019.

Nightwing, meanwhile, is yet to nail down a production timeline, but fans can still continue to enjoy Warner’s DC output, safe in the knowledge that a Dick Grayson solo movie is on the way.
