The exchange started with Downey posting a clip from the set of 2012’s The Avengers, where Evans seems to be having trouble putting on his parachute. In the caption, the Iron Man actor wrote:

“This is what happens when they aren’t designed by Stark, @ChrisEvans”

In response, Evans offered a swift rebuttal:

“I’m assuming you mean the parachute. However you DID design that costume, so I think they cancel each other out.”

The Captain America actor later followed up his tweet by suggesting that the bulk of the blame might actually lie with a third party:

“Maybe the blame is rests more with Coulson. Either way, you still let me run around New York like that.”

At the time of writing, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg has yet to comment.

While the recent exchange between Evans and Downey was all in good fun, their big screen alter egos haven’t been on the best terms in recent years. After trading blows in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Cap and Iron Man have yet to reunite, spending the entirety of Avengers: Infinity War in separate corners of the MCU.

Of course, it’s generally assumed that the pair will resolve their disagreements in this month’s Endgame as the original Phase 1 line-up reassembles one last time. A recent trailer for the Phase 3 finale even showed Tony Stark and Steve Rogers making up against a backdrop that may or may not have been the Battle of New York from The Avengers.

Since then, however, directors Anthony and Joe Russo couldn’t help but muddy the waters by claiming that this exchange isn’t in the actual film. Perhaps not, but we can still expect Cap and Iron Man to buddy up at least one more time when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
