Ryan Reynolds decided to celebrate National Best Friends Day yesterday by honoring his good friend Hugh Jackman, but in typical Reynolds style, the Deadpool star couldn’t resist the opportunity to troll the Wolverine at the same time.

The Canadian actor posted a couple of photos of himself and Jackman chatting and shaking hands on his Instagram account on June 8th. In the caption, Reynolds wrote: “Happy #BestFriendsDay to Jake Gyllenhaal (Not pictured).”

Of course, both X-Men stars and the villain of the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home are all good pals. In fact, Reynolds’ post reminds us of an earlier snap he shared back in December, featuring himself being mocked by Jackman and Gyllenhaal for wearing a tacky Christmas sweater.

The gentle dig at the Australian star in this post is just the latest hit in the Reynolds/Jackman feud that the pair like to keep going on social media, though they briefly held a “truce” earlier this year. This spills into the Deadpool movies, too, in which DP regularly gets in digs at Wolverine, including those Logan references in Deadpool 2.

Of course, Reynolds has often tried to get his close friend back on board the X-Men machine to appear in his movies, but Jackman has made it clear that he’s officially retired from playing the adamantium antihero. Reynolds himself, though, looks to have a long career as the Merc with a Mouth ahead of him. In fact, it’s believed that Marvel only wishes to continue with the Deadpool franchise now that they’ve got the rights to the X-universe, with the rest of mutantkind being recast.

There was a rumor that Deadpool could even crossover with Spider-Man instead of Wolverine, but it’s since been refuted by other sources that point to Marvel planning to keep DP in his own series, probably to prevent Ryan Reynolds from causing too much mayhem in the MCU.
