Now that Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 5 has daringly positioned itself to premiere on Christmas Day 2015 (in the super-imposing wake of Star Wars: Episode VII, which releases one week before), negotiations are starting to get underway with the cast. With Tom Cruise already set to return, we’re now hearing that Simon Pegg has agreed to reprise his role as Benji Dunn, the IMF team’s resident computer/gadget whiz.

Joining Cruise and McQuarrie for his third go-round in the high-octane series, Pegg’s Benji is sure to provide the necessary comic relief that he so effortlessly brought to the character when he was first introduced in the 2006 J.J. Abrams-directed Mission: Impossible III.

Speaking with MTV, Pegg confirmed his participation in the film, saying the following:

“Yes, absolutely,”I’m looking forward to that. I’ve already started eating one carrot a day in order to be in shape.”

This is no doubt good news for fans of the talented English-born writer/comedian/actor, who has become a fanboy-favorite thanks to enjoyable performances in films like Hot Fuzz, Paul, Shaun of the Dead and the Star Trek reboots. Pegg’s very presence injects any project he’s involved in with his usual good-natured humor and one-of-a-kind comedic skills, and Mission: Impossible 5 should be no different.

Tell us, are you excited to hear that Simon Pegg will be reprising his role in Mission: Impossible 5? Who else do you want to see return? Let us know in the comments section below.
