Taron Egerton Wants To Leave Kingsman After Third Film, But Not For Good

Star Taron Egerton thinks Kingsman 3 will be hit for him in the role of Eggsy. At least, for a good while, as he feels he needs to take a step away before returning again.

Taron Egerton recently had fans concerned when he said that he won’t be showing up in the third Kingsman movie, leaving us to worry that his character Eggsy had been written out of the franchise. There’s an important distinction to make here, though: the actor was referring to the upcoming prequel and not Kingsman 3, which will most definitely continue Eggsy and Harry’s adventures.

Kingsman creator Mark Millar helped clarify this the other week as well, explaining that the prequel, previously given the title Kingsman: The Great Game, focuses on the beginnings of the Kingsman organization a hundred years ago and so obviously, there’s no room for Eggsy in it.

But the fan favorite will 100% be back in the next entry in the main series and speaking in a recent interview, Egerton talked about what his plans for the franchise are moving forward. According to the actor, he’s happy to do Kingsman 3, but afterwards, he’d like to take a break. At least for “10, 15 years” before he returns to “pass the mantle on.”

“I think what I would like to happen is for us to do a third one and for it to feel like a worthy third installment to what has been a great part of my life,” said Egerton. “And then my dream for it would be that I would kind hang up my suit for 10, 15 years and then come back and pass the mantle on. That’s what I’d like to do, I think that would be fun. We have to take a step away for it for a while before we did that.”

Firm details on what exactly lies ahead for the franchise still remain a bit hazy, but as we explained above, there appears to be two separate Kingsman films currently in development. Those being The Great Game and the third installment in the main trilogy. From what we understand, the prequel’s next out the door, but with Fox keeping quiet on their plans, it’s hard to say exactly what director Matthew Vaughn and his team are cooking up for us.

Regardless, more Kingsman can only be a good thing and as soon as additional information emerges on what’s to come, we’ll be sure to let you know.
