6) 10 Cloverfield Lane Has Nothing To Do With Cloverfield
The term “blood relative” makes me think 10 Cloverfield Lane will be connected in tone only. We already watched the biggest of enemies destroy us, so what about the smallest? Again, this harkens back to my first theory where humans themselves are the enemy, but with the suggestion that Cloverfield never happened.
Clover never leveled NYC, and it’s an entirely different threat that causes the same gripping fears. It’s a sneaky technique, but “blood relative” could also be translated to “inspired by,” or something of that nature. I already don’t believe Clover or the parasites will be in this film, but going further, I believe the atrocity may never have taken place at all.
Cloverfield is big. Cloverfield is menacing. Cloverfield is about a foe that’s infinitely larger than yourself, that we have absolutely no power against. Reverse that, and you have what 10 Cloverfield Lane appears to be. It’s tiny, compact, claustrophobic, and built on what looks to be uncertainty. Yet, both scenarios cause fear and paranoia.
[zergpaid]I’m not saying J.J. is a cheat, but the Cloverfield tie-in could be nothing but a genius marketing ploy, coupled with the complete radio silence until last night. This could be nothing but a paranoid thriller set in a man’s basement/bunker, or the bunker material could only be half the film’s location – both scenarios could be a reality. But, either way, we have to accept that Cloverfield may just have led to a shoot-off new idea, no matter how much that might hurt superfans.
Whatever happens, I’m beyond excited to see the result for a number of reasons (Cloverfield/Trachtenberg/Winstead/Goodman/Bad Robot) – but dammit if these theories each tickle me in their own, weird way.
Except the radioactive zombie parasites. Seriously guys. That was a joke.
