Deadline is reporting that Tom Cruise is the newest name in the long list of stars that Warner Bros. is hoping to snag for the long gestating A Star Is Born. Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Hamm, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale were all courted in the past but now the studio has their eyes set on Cruise.

Clint Eastwood is still set to direct the tale of “a wide-eyed girl dreaming of stardom who finds a helping hand from a washed out, alcoholic older leading man.” As of now, Beyonce is also still set to take the lead female role.

Whether Cruise can fit the film into his schedule or not is probably the number one issue. He has Horizons and We Mortals Are coming up so it may be tricky. But, working with Eastwood is probably something that would appeal to Cruise and I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds time to sneak this one onto his plate.

We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
