Kristen Stewart Rumored To Be In Line To Play The DCEU’s Batgirl

A few months ago, a rumor started making the rounds that Warner Bros. is on the lookout for a “Kristen Stewart prototype” to play Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, in the DCEU. And while we still haven’t had any official confirmation of such an idea, Twitter user and regular leaker @DanielRPK is doubling down on the notion with a new post that shares excerpts from a document with this exact casting description.

Naturally, this latest report will only help fuel the speculation that K-Stew herself could be landing the part. Since the actress made a splash with her oft-ridiculed performance in the Twilight movies, Stewart has spent these last few years building up her indie and arthouse credentials in acclaimed works like Personal Shopper and Certain Women. Nonetheless, as the upcoming Charlie’s Angels movie indicates, the star remains open to trying popular franchise fare.

Of course, Warner’s list of “Kristen Stewart prototypes” surely extends far beyond the most obvious candidate, and it must be said that the fans also make an interesting case with their suggestion of Jane Levy.

Regardless, it could be a long time until we actually see the new Barbara Gordon in any sort of project. After Joss Whedon departed from the character’s standalone film, it was said that the studio might be looking for a female director to fill his place.

At the same time, a report came out a couple of months ago that Batgirl might be getting her own TV show on DC’s upcoming streaming service, though the internet has been relatively quiet on the idea since. It’s all looking pretty mysterious for the time being, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before some major DCEU announcements come our way.
