‘We are so back’: New poster for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ promises a sequel worth the 28 year wait

I Know What You Did Last Summer saved the slasher genre once, can it do it again?

Can you believe it’s been almost 30 years since I Know What You Did Last Summer made a bloody impression on horror fans of the nineties. But after an agonizing wait fans of the cult classic are finally being treated to a sequel, and we don’t have long to wait either.

The film is set to hit theaters July 18th meaning we have a little over a month to go. Despite the imminent release date, we’ve been given very little information regarding the slasher sequel. In April the first trailer for the film was released which gave us our first proper glimpse at the cast, both old and new. Now we’ve been graced with a new poster which also looks pretty cool.

I Know What You Did Last Summer — everything you need to know

Despite the name this isn’t a remake of the original nineties film, it’s a sequel. The original centered around a group of teenagers who are tormented by a mysterious figure sending them cryptic and ominous notes relating to a murder and cover up that the group were involved in the previous Summer. The teens try to get to the source of the mystery as they are violently picked off one by one.

The film received two sequels with the most recent being, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer which was released in 2006 and wasn’t very good if we’re being brutally honest.

The new film looks set to follow a similar premise in modern times with a young cast composed of Hollywood stars Madelyne Cline, Nicolas Alexander Chavez, and Lola Tung among others. Fans of the original can even expect to see a few familiar faces with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt set to reprise their roles.

The fan reactions

It’s safe to say the majority of fans are pretty excited to see the franchise return after so long. I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream were the two major saviors of the slasher genre in the nineties. Of course, we’ve seen the Scream series come back in the 2020s with a couple of great entries and now it’s time for this franchise to do the same.

On X one person excitedly wrote, “we are so back” and shared pictures of the previous entries posters alongside the new one.

Another praised the look of the Fisherman in the new movie.

I Know What You Did Last Summer promises to be a quality slasher movie with creative kills, nothing more, nothing less. While the premise might be very similar to what we’ve seen before, that’s all fans really want.
