When is ‘Avatar 3’ coming out?

Let's hope that a 13-year gap isn't around the corner.

Avatar: The Way of Water has firmly cemented itself in the race to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time, thanks to James Cameron’s relentless efforts to sustain this enchanting world and attract a growing number of audiences to theaters. This film, which revolutionized the landscape of Hollywood, continues to captivate viewers, drawing them into its fantastical realm, and the next one in line to strive to achieve its precedents’ numbers will be Avatar 3.

The upcoming sequel in the Avatar franchise, yet to be named, is expected to grace theaters much sooner than the gaps between its preceding installments. While Avatar made its debut in 2009, fans had to wait a staggering 13 years to witness the return of the Na’vi on the big screen. Despite the extended hiatus, the movie triumphantly captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide, who eagerly tuned in to revisit the world of Pandora once again. Unfortunately, you might have to wait a bit longer to see them back on our screen.

In addition to The Way of Water, James Cameron and Jon Landau have confirmed three upcoming sequels, and although it may take some time before we witness the return of Jake Sully and Neytiri, the Na’vi are slated to make their comeback in 2024. As of now, the movie’s official release date is set for December 20, 2024, although several postponements of the film have occurred in the past.

While the cinema landscape may be fickle when it comes to releases, Avatar 3 has already wrapped up filming, currently in post-production as per IMDb. The upcoming sequel will see Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, and Jack Champion reprising their roles from the previous installments, with the confirmed two movies also being already in the works, slated for a release in the upcoming years.

For the time being, as you await Avatar 3, its prequel Avatar: The Way of Water is available to stream on Disney Plus.
