Suicide Squad is, unsurprisingly, all the rage across social media channels of late, what with David Ayer’s anti-hero feature earmarked for release on August 5th.
But perhaps more than anything, SDCC 2016 served as an exciting reminder of the cinematic goods still to come in 2017 and beyond. Chief among them for many was Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins’ intricate origins tale that heralds the return of Gal Gadot in the title role.
Following up on her scene-stealing debut in Batman V Superman, Gadot stands as the focal point of Warner Bros.’ spinoff, which will reportedly hop between various timelines. That’s something that shone through in the rip-roaring SDCC trailer, placing a heavy emphasis on Diana Prince’s budding connection with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor amid the chaos of The Great War.
Speaking of which, a new action shot hailing from Empire thrusts Gadot’s hero into WWI, as she grimaces at the horrors of war beside a decked out soldier. Will Wonder Woman be going over the top and into no man’s land? It certainly appears so, Lasso of Truth in tow.
Wonder Woman is due to arrive on these shores come June 2, 2017. Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Lucy Davis round out the starry lineup.
