WWE Superstar And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Actor Sheamus Hopes To Play Venom

The last update we had on the long rumoured Venom movie is that it's still in development, but is being produced solely by Sony Pictures and not Marvel Studios. That means it won't be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or feature Spider-Man, but its biggest issue is the fact that Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are going to be involved.

The last update we had on the long rumoured Venom movie is that it’s still in development, but is being produced solely by Sony Pictures and not Marvel Studios. That means it won’t be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or feature Spider-Man, but its biggest issue is the fact that Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are going to be involved. They’re essentially the ones responsible for everything that went wrong with Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man movies, so there’s definitely cause for concern there.

It looks like Venom is still happening though, and someone very keen on playing the iconic villain is WWE Superstar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows actor Sheamus. He stars as Rocksteady in that movie, and as a genuine fan of the Spider-Man bad villain, he revealed his interest in playing the character in a recent interview.

“I’ve always said I want to play Venom, from Spider-Man. Another iconic character. I always read comic books as a kid, I always remember Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. He was kind of a red head. I’d love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom was one of my favourite characters.”

Sheamus certainly looks the part of Eddie Brock, and he’s definitely charismatic enough to bring a lot to the table here. Could he carry an entire movie that the majority of comic book fans don’t seem to need or want though? That’s obviously debatable, but if Venom were to be used as a villain in a future Spider-Man movie, he could very well shine.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with this, especially as Sony have the option to take the character in any number of directions. Quite a few different men have held the Venom mantle over the years, so there’s actually nothing to say that we’ll even end up seeing Eddie Brock on the big screen if and when this movie eventually happens.
