9 John Wick Crossovers You Didn’t Know You Needed

Maybe it's my head-cold delirium. Maybe I've been injecting too much action awesomeness into my eyeballs recently. Whatever the reason, I can't stop thinking about John Wick: Chapter 2. Specifically, who's ass John Wick could kick next. Well, not exactly KICK, but fill with cold, hard steel - BULLETS, talking about bullets here. You get where I'm going with this. Keanu Reeves' reluctant hitman has become a household name overnight, and there's no reason to retire his bulletproof suit anytime soon. So, where does John Wick: Chapter 3 go from here? I say a crossover. Hear me out. Who doesn't love a good heavyweight bout between familiar characters? Freddy Vs. Jason! King Kong Vs. Godzilla! John Wick versus - I don't know yet! That's the question I'm here to pose. What franchise could Wick and his nameless pup wander into, and then set ablaze? Action, drama, horror, who knows? Don't lie, the concept excites you. On that note, let's take a look at some John Wick crossovers you didn't know you needed, starting with the most obvious... John Wick: An International Raid Crossover: The Raid: Redemption (2011), The Raid 2 (2014) Chances are, you did see this one coming. If you didn't, understand that John Wick NEEDS to find himself within Gareth Evans' Indonesian action universe. The Raid: Redemption is martial arts mastery, and The Raid 2 only gets better. A third film has been teased by Evans, but with no recent news, here's a perfect time to get creative! Picture this - Wick is contracted by an international billionaire to take out an Indonesian mark. At the same time, Iko Uwais and his team are hunting said mark for arrest. You could spin it as two hunters focused on the same goal, one who needs a confirmed kill, the other who wants a clean takedown. Maybe Uwais and Reeves scrap a bit, but you'd also have some awesome scenes where they reluctantly work together until one walks away with an accomplished mission. The details are fuzzy, but all I can picture right now is a slow-motion John Woo shot where Uwais and Reeves are spinning back-to-back. Then some poor bad guy gets pummelled to oblivion. Crunch, smash, boom. John Wick: An International Raid is too big to fail. Iko Uwais and Keanu in the same film? Done. Kung-fu (Pencak silat) versus Gun-fu? Let's see it. International appeal with a domestic draw? Ugh, just IMAGINE the brutality that would swirl together as Uwais snaps bones and Reeves lands yet another headshot. Give it to me NOW. John Wick: Call Of The Warrior Crossover: The Warriors (1979) This is more high-concept, but with vision, could be a neat idea. Imagine if we fast forward a few years into the John Wick timeline, and the lawlessness of NYC means that gangs form like in The Warriors. Ian McShane's hotel still stands, as does the assassin coven Reeves belongs to. Different factions hire assassins to do their bidding on the streets, or use them as muscle for protection. Everything is now a power-play at territories, with mercenary talents going to the highest bidder. From here, it's all up in the air. Maybe you adapt the original story in which the Warriors have to navigate their way through Manhattan/Brooklyn, with Wick as their escort. Or maybe there's a different story here without old characters. In either case, assassins are free agents who make it even more impossible to stay alive on rival turf. But, given Wick's conscience, maybe the Warriors are once again wronged and he wants to see justice carried out - thus bridging an alliance that lights NYC afire with bullets, explosions and dead Baseball Furies. Given how easily Wick is able to defeat assassins in public during his own Walter Hill-esque trek through NYC in John Wick: Chapter 2, it just makes sense. Marry the two words and let anarchy reign. John Wick: A Violent Purge Crossover: The Purge (2013), The Purge: Anarchy (2014), The Purge: Election Day (2016) With news of The Purge 4 coming (possibly without Frank Grillo), I have a suggestion for a new hero - JOHN WICK. Let's say that Wick's assassin program is kept tightly under wraps, and that *most* contracted killers want to avoid purging just like rational Americans. Then let's say Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) still wants to abolish the annual Purge, and the New Founding Fathers aim to end her campaign (once again). Maybe they even get to Grillo, and with his final moments, he contacts a man who few believe exists. A ghost. Someone you only call when a job needs to get done. From here, possibilities are endless. It wouldn't just be Wick against aimless psychopaths. That'd be too easy. All those mask-wearing "patriots" who kill without experience, they'd be handily dispatched by Wick. You need the New Founding Fathers and their militarized army, as Wick makes his way through New York City on the most dangerous night of the year. I mean, they call Wick a boogeyman, now it's time for him to fight equal demons. Plus, this crossover gives you the ability to inject a few other assassins who may live for Purge night. Maybe a sniper who goes on a roof for some target practice, or a butcher who lurks the shadows with sharpened blades. Colorful "boss battles" like in Dead Rising. This is Purge night. Let the devils come out to play, and give us something to REALLY fear. John Wick: An Expendable Hitman Crossover: The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2 (2012), The Expendables 3 (2014) I'm somewhat of an Expendables apologist, in that 80s-inspired action is hard to come by these days (done marginally right). You're half watching for the action, half watching to see what veteran action star makes a cameo. That said, John Wick could teach these old dogs some new tricks, AND WHO WOULDN'T WANT THAT?! Now, there are two ways to go about this... First, the obvious route. Get him involved in the Expendables somehow. Simple. Add Keanu Reeves to a roster of badasses who are of the same technical mindset. Stop drooling. Gags could be plentiful. Maybe Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) goes to kill thugs with some expertly-thrown knives, but before the daggers strike their targets, Wick headshots the baddies. Cue an angry Statham face, a Reeves smirk, and some dumb - yet wholly appreciated - one-liner. "Too slow, Santa Claus." Just get Reeves involved and watch magic happen. OR MAYBE WICK SHOOTS A BULLET INTO THE FLYING DAGGER, WHICH ACTS LIKE A ROCKET BOOSTER THAT PUSHES THE KNIFE CLEAN THROUGH A HENCHMAN'S NOGGIN. See? SEE?! Now, here's the other route - what if John Wick was contracted to kill an Expendable? Maybe Ceaser (Terry Crews)? Someone wants to send a message, and Wick delivers. This pits the Expendables against Wick, who proves to be a worthy adversary. Then maybe we learn that Wick was forced into pulling the hit off (another blood oath?)? The Expendables are forced to reconcile their differences, and the whole lot goes against a main villain behind it all (using Wick to destroy the Expendables). This is a major spitball, but one that could be monumental if executed. John Wick: No, There Won't Be Another Pixels Crossover: Pixels (2015) Hey, did you know that we could still get a Pixels sequel? It's not likely - even Paper Towns beat that junker's opening weekend - but I don't know, stranger things have happened. It's totally possible that Adam Sandler and company show up to beat some more 8-bit butt - but what if Wick stopped them first?! I have no intentions of making a crossover work, but would just love if the next John Wick movie opened with him killing each main Pixels character with ease. Just to ensure another Pixels will never happen. A quick double-tap, silent and deadly. Maybe the government had second thoughts and wants to erase the whole event from history? Who cares. Let's just make sure Pixels 2 isn't given an extra life. Better safe than sorry, right? John Wick: A Professional Accomplice Crossover: Léon: The Professional (1994) Let's get real again. Why not take one of the better hitman films over the last few decades, and mash it with an up-and-coming classic? The world of Léon colliding with John Wick, by using not-so-little Mathilda (Natalie Portman) as the connective tissue. That's my bid here. Fans have long been calling for a Mathilda-led sequel, with Portman taking up the mantle of sharp-shooting hitgirl. Why not introduce Wick into the mix as her unlikely mentor? Maybe she wasn't always serious about a life of death-dealing, until hearing about some expansive assassin collective. A switch flips, and she wants in. Mathilda still remembers some of Léon's teachings, and it's revealed that she's been training a steady trigger-finger in secret. Wick sees something in the girl that sparks his interest (not romantic, but friendship), and the two form a team of sorts. Maybe then you can go the route of having them thrust into some kind of dramatic scheme, where they're framed or hunted. You've got Wick the assassin and Mathilda the protege - until she proves herself an equal talent. Any way you play it, I want the Wick/Mathilda duo put into action. This one ranks pretty high on my dream crossover list. John Wick: The Hangover Cure Crossover: The Hangover (2009), The Hangover Part II (2011), The Hangover Part III (2013) Your favorite wolfpack is back, only their latest hijinks land them in some REAL hot water. Let's say they go South of the Border for a Mexican destination wedding (who cares about the married couple), and steal drugs from a local cartel boss. They wake up with a kilo of coke and a message that says some boogeyman is coming for them. Zach Galifianakis makes an off-color joke, Ed Helms screams and Bradley Cooper acts chill - then Wick walks in the room and all three piss themselves. Comedies like this always feature inept assassins, only so the goofball main characters can somehow escape. Let's break the mold and have the assassin complete his job with ease - like he should. No messing around. One, two, three. Drugs are returned, job is done. Maybe don't get blackout drunk in foreign countries and steal from crime bosses? This is one for all the hitmen out there who have been misrepresented by slapstick sensibilities. Not today. Not with this hangover. John Wick: The Ultimate Predator Crossover Remake: Predators (2010) Leave Predator alone. Leave Predator 2 alone. Those movies do not need John Wick. But Nimród Antal's Predators "reboot" or whatever? Burn it with fire, pretend it never existed, then do it over in the world of John Wick - and let Shane Black direct. It's a simple inclusion. The whole plot of Predators is that everyone's favorite spine-ripping aliens love hunting for sport. They pick the best of the best humans, and drop them on a remote plant. The hunters, soldiers, killers - whoever gets wrangled up - must fend for themselves, and attempt to not become a mounted head on some Predator spaceship. So, what if John Wick and his assassin friends were forced into playing the galaxy's most dangerous game? It'd give filmmakers the chance to draw up some eccentric new assassins who would first fight each other - The Condemned style - and then band together once their hunters catch up. It's all very simple. Wick and his assassin friends against Predators. Deadly marksmen versus alien technology. Gun-Fu versus laser PEW-PEW things. Whatever makes Predators not be Predators, I'm game. Wait a second...The Condemned? Hmmm... John Wick: Condemned Killer Crossover: The Condemned (2007), The Condemned 2 (2015) Screw it. The Condemned is fun. But what if WWE's lesser-appreciated franchise got a John Wick makeover? The idea of a streaming deathmatch tournament could be spiced-up with willing participants, and actual arenas. Something like the original Roger Corman Death Race 2000? And please let this be directed by Joe Carnahan. Here, let's just make it easy. The government got all screwy, and instead of legalizing marijuana for taxation purposes, they fully sanction Condemned tournaments for some extra dough. Restricted areas, approved murders - the whole shebang. Even better, they offer a cash prize. The sickest of the sick, being given a chance to walk away with millions. Who better to enlist themselves than trained, cold-blooded killers? Wick doesn't seem like the type to sign up, though - you're right. He'd need coaxing. Revenge, blackmail, something. Maybe he's drugged and wakes up mid-game? However it happens, he enters a televised Thunderdome as some glorified contestant. Yes, hints of The Running Man and The Tournament can be spotted, but you're telling me you don't want that? Remove all the drama subplots, and make it easy. A number of assassins, a cash prize and only one survivor. Who, of course, will be John Wick.
