Because if you’ve been going to these events, it honestly does sort of feel that way. No matter how emotionally bankrupt the electronic music scene has become over the years, you know how you felt the first time you danced under the electric sky - and you keep coming back year after year in hopes that you’ll feel a little of that same magic, even though times have changed so much. Perhaps all it takes is seeing something for the first time once more. You can only catch the same couple dozen artists play the Kinetic Field main stage so many years in a row, after all; if dance music is gonna save your life all over again, you need to go out of your way to uncover its hidden gems. ...And luckily for you, we’ve already given you a head start. The following ten artists will make you rediscover Electric Daisy Carnival in a way that’ll make you glad you returned. 1) Dr. Fresch This Los Angeles-based artist makes bold, sexy house music that hints at the French G-house movement that’s been bringing the heat to the dance floors in recent years. An import of Insomniac’s Project Discovery, he made his EDC debut in 2014 and they brought him back to rock the decks for another year. Dr. Fresch is a name to look out for as the younger generation of music fans abandon drops for grooves - a fresh face in a part of the scene so dominated by elder statesmen. 2) Amine Edge & Dance ...That said, no conversation about G-house is complete without a mention of Amine Edge & Dance. These French DJs are known for uploading more live sets than any of us can realistically listen to in our free time, with each performance seamlessly blending elements of house music with hip-hop and R&B vocals. Amine Edge & Dance are quickly becoming a household name in the global dance music market, so get acquainted with them now while they’ll still bolster your street cred. 3) Get Real In case you don’t know what Get Real is about, it’s pretty simple to sum up. Claude VonStroke and Green Velvet playing back to back. Need we say more? Green Velvet represents the legendary past of tech house, while his world-renowned Dirtybird record label VonStroke represents the future. We’re willing to bet that you’ll be able to catch Get Real at the Neon Garden stage. After all, that’s where the proper music is at every EDC, and those two are nothing if not that. 4) Kidnap Kid You don’t always find house producers to be all that keen on pushing the boundaries, but even though he’s becoming a respected fixture in the world of house music, Kidnap Kid refuses to conform. Expect his set to be rife with mind-blowing original productions that’ll leave you yearning for more. 5) Saeed Younan Saeed Younan’s blend of tribal, tech and deep house sub genres will give attendees who stumble upon his performance a taste of the playa at this year’s edition of EDC. Born in Iraq and raised in Washington D.C. for most of his life, Younan has traveled the world in order to accumulate all the elements of his transcendental sound, and you'll be in for a real treat if you decide to check him out. 6) Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Examples of the more mainstream end of the spectrum, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano have gradually found their names in the mouths of music fans worldwide for their anthemic big room house tracks. If you stumble into their set you'll likely hear their latest song, “Karusell,” which has proven a unique take on otherwise passé musical trends. And, we’d like to think that the duo will build upon that track’s popularity by finding more new ways to redefine the popular side of dance music, so their set will not be one to miss. 7) Gaia We’ve already told you how we feel about Armin Van Buuren’s “pure trance” side project with his co-producer, Benno De Goeij, and it’s really about time that the organizers of Electric Daisy Carnival got these two behind the decks to demonstrate what real trance is all about. Pure trance is a style of trance with faster BPMs and more brooding melodies, and any fan of the genre owes it to themselves to catch at least one Gaia set this summer. So, why not start with EDC? 8) MitiS MitiS’ Living Color EP from a couple months ago proved that EDM artists don’t have to be one-trick ponies to land a time slot at EDC after all. His productions on the effort ranged from trance to progressive to drum and bass - all the while managing to maintain his signature sound throughout. Calling Eugene Oregon his home, he stands out as another artist with a fresh take on the house music genre. Certainly an artist to watch in the coming months, his Mixtape Series podcasts also stand as proof that his set at EDC will be one to work into your schedule. 10) Alison Wonderland Another Australian export with the dreamlike sound design of artists like Flume, Alison Wonderland came onto the EDM community’s radar fairly recently and has stayed firmly locked in its crosshairs ever since. Her robust personality and passion for her craft translate into her music, making her all but destined for success as the industry begins to favor more alternative sounds. Considering that you’re almost certainly going to hear about Alison Wonderland in the months to follow, you’ll wanna do yourself a favor and catch her set while she’s still a relatively budding artist - because those are the ones who reward the listener most when they blossom.
