Dirtybird Players Back2Back Throwdown at Trade – 3/17
No outfit has brought underground house and techno back into mainstream awareness quite like Dirtybird has. Proving that he’s got an ear for cutting-edge sounds that still cater to purists of the genre, label head Claude VonStroke has teamed up with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and has curated the downstairs lineup with artists from his own label, Nice Age.
As far as the upstairs is concerned, partygoers can look forward to sets by Justin Martin, Shiba San, Ardalan, VonStroke himself, as well as countless other Dirtybird alumni.
Eric Prydz at MAPS – 3/17
If you’ve been anywhere on or around the internet in recent weeks, chances are you’ve seen video of Eric Prydz’ mindblowing EPIC 4.0 stage shows. His performance at the MAPS Backlot in Miami won’t feature the same enormous, holographic cube that’s been making headlines of late, but the location will make for more of an intimate setting, one which fans will be able to enjoy one of Prydz’ transcendental sets in close company.
The producer will play tracks from his self-titled artist album, as well as those of his more techno-oriented Cirez D side project, and should give us a night that will surely be a definite highlight of Miami Music Week.
Future Sound of Breaks at The Hangar – 3/18
When Miami grew into an electronic music hub during the late ‘90s, breaks was its chief export – and perhaps no artist’s name continues to be as synonymous with the genre as that of DJ Icey. On the other hand, Stanton Warriors is quite likely the most relevant contemporary artist in breakbeat – making Future Sound of Breaks a must for anyone looking for a full Miami experience during the weekend.
Joining these two breaks tastemakers in the hangar are DJ Craze, Just Blaze, David Christophere, RITM, Loadstar, KJ Sawka, Wuki, Christian Martin, Worth, AK1200 and Legion.
Welcome To Gorgon City – 3/18
Hailing from the UK, Gorgon City have succeeded in capturing the hearts of music fans across the pond as well. On the Friday of Miami Music Week they will be taking over Club Space, enlisting support from Amtrac, Burn Unit, Jonas Rathsman, Justin Jay, Kidnap Kid, Gene Farris and Sonny Fodera for an evening of shimmering soundscapes that will provide partygoers a respite from the main stage.
Gorgon City have provided little information about what attendees can expect during the occasion, opting to let the music speak for itself – as only real artists do.
