When Ryan Reynold’s failed Green Lantern movie disgraced our big screens, it seemed unlikely that we would ever get to explore the vast mythos of the character again. But with the DCEU firmly establishing that Lanterns are out there, it’s time to look toward the future.

With Green Lantern Corps coming in the next few years, it gives us plenty of time to speculate on what type of stories a series of Green Lantern films can tell. One that absolutely deserves to be adapted is the famous “Blackest Night” storyline, which sees an evil force known as Nekron reanimate dead superheroes with the goal of wiping out all life on earth.

Maybe not enough heroes have died in the DCEU to truly give this arc the dramatic weight it deserves, but it’s one that would create a massive spectacle of world-ending proportions. It also examines the core concept of the Green Lantern corps and its relation with all the other corps in the universe. If they’re looking for a story that opens up the mythos, then following “Blackest Night” would be the best way to go.
