Grandchild says their scheming aunt asked them to make slideshow for grandfather’s memorial. So, they decided to expose her truth

The tribute reportedly turned into a callout.

A grandchild who was asked to create a memorial slideshow for their late grandfather reportedly used it to expose their aunt, according to a post shared on Reddit by u/IndependentPound424 in r/offmychest. The aunt appears to have walked out halfway through the gathering after the presentation shifted from a standard family tribute to a series of screenshots of her private text messages.

The tension reportedly began earlier this year following the death of the grandfather. The grandchild claims their mother handled all the daily tasks while the aunt remained largely absent. Those tasks allegedly included driving to appointments, buying groceries, and cleaning the house. Despite this, the aunt seemingly convinced other relatives that she had been the primary caregiver.

At the funeral, the aunt reportedly suggested the mother should have been around more, a remark the grandchild says left their mother in tears. When the family organized a memorial gathering a few months later, the aunt asked the grandchild to put together a slideshow of family photos. The grandchild saw an opportunity to set the record straight.

The slideshow looked like a normal tribute until the screenshots started

The grandchild says they paid to have the memorial slideshow professionally produced, ensuring it looked like a standard, polished tribute for the first half. The tone reportedly changed abruptly when the presentation featured screenshots of the aunt asking the mother to handle every responsibility, while she claimed to be too busy.

The memorial slideshow also allegedly included messages where the aunt complained about the burden of visiting her own father. The aunt’s daughter reportedly confronted her mother after the walkout, which appears to have led to a heated argument. However, the grandchild’s mother is also said to be furious with them.

She apparently feels the memorial was meant for remembering her father, and she believes the grandchild turned that moment into a public humiliation of her sister. The grandchild admits they knew what they were doing and maintains they do not regret exposing the aunt. They say they are only saddened that their mother was caught in the middle.

Commenters on the post appear divided over the memorial slideshow, much like the reactions to other viral family feuds. Some praised the grandchild for exposing the aunt, with one calling it a wonderful job. Others suggested the grandchild may have done what the mother couldn’t, as she apparently wouldn’t stand up for herself.

Several commenters criticized the choice of venue for the reveal. “I mean you’re not wrong, but your mom also isn’t wrong. You did turn a moment of grief and support into one of revenge,” one commenter wrote. Another called the move disgusting, claiming only children would applaud that kind of behavior.

One commenter said they wanted to fault the grandchild for not consulting their mother, who they described as the wronged party. However, the same person admitted they could not, as they are dealing with their own sibling drama and wish someone would do the same for them.

The grandchild appears to have no plans to apologize to the aunt, which could make future family gatherings difficult as relatives remain split over the memorial slideshow.
