As Laidback Luke presses onward towards the release of his upcoming album, Focus, he’s allowed another track preview from the effort to reach his fans’ ears early. Less than a month after teasing the lackluster “Let It Go” featuring Trevor Guthrie, the DJ/producer has given his fans something of more substance with his Sam Ashworth collaboration, “Hooked Again.”
While this track falls somewhat into a category I’ve taken to calling “department store house” of late, it’s certainly a welcome departure from the last Focus track Laidback Luke released. Meandering instrumentals set a more sophisticated tone in this arrangement, and spirited vocals contributed by Ashworth make it play back in your head long after you’ve stopped listening to it.
